We started this blog in December 2005 and most of our earlier posts came with ugly, low-resolution photos because all we had were our old Sony Ericsson handphones only. After a year or so, we have decided to pool our pocket monies (we were still students back then) to buy a point and shoot camera – Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01. It costed us RM1800 (!!) and we were starving and having breads for about a month or so. Then the DSLR trend came about. We bought a Canon EOS 450D since we have already started working back then. Eventually we added two lens – Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens and Tamron SP AF17-50mm f/2.8 VC. We took most of our travel photos with the Canon EOS 450D body and Tamron lens. So far so good, but the only problem is they were too heavy to be lugged around!
So, we got a mirror less camera right before our #kbcgineurope trip. The Olympus E-PL5 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with 14- 42mm kit lens is small, light weight and most importantly the photo quality is of DSLR quality! That pretty much sums up our camera journey for the past 8 years. We were quite careful with our spending as each cameras lasted for about 3 years.
As usual, a normal kit lens does not satisfy us when it comes to taking macro shoots, especially for food blogging. We were looking for something like the 50mm lens that we were so used to. While doing lens shopping online, we stumbled upon www.lazada.com.my. They have a wide varieties of lenses available and the pricing is very competitive!
We found our dream lens here! It is the Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 lens! Since both Panasonic and Olympus support Micro Four Thirds, there’s a wide array of lenses available. We bought this from the Lazada iOS app as they were offering a RM 30 off with any purchase of up to RM70.
Delivery took about 4 business days and the cash on delivery process was so fast and so easy. Basically the delivery company will give you a call prior to the delivery so that you can get your cash ready. When the delivery is here, just hand the delivery boy the correct amount of cash and he will issue you a receipt as proof of payment. Easy peasy!
My lens was safe and sound inside the box with so many layers of bubble and foam wrap around.
We have been using the macro lens together with our Olympus E-PL5 so frequent now. Here’s some sample shots:
So, what’s next? Wide angle lens and externs flash hopefully! Save some money first!
