MTR 1924 is an established restaurant in Bangalore that opened up their fourth overseas outpost in none other than Brickfields, Bangsar. MTR also means Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, and they have came a long way since year 1924. Words on street is they serve the best south Indian vegetarian food and we have to agree.
We just have to order their famous Masala Dosa. The ultra light and crispy dosa is filled with spiced potatoes, and accompanied by green chutney, lentil sambar. It was really flavourful, especially after we drizzled it with fragrant ghee.
For lunch and dinner, MTR offers special thali set where ou get to try a little bit of everything. We had the special mini meals (RM 18) that consists of kosambari salad, palya, vegetable sagu, choice of dosa/poori/chapathi/akki roti, bidi belt bhath, plain rice, curd rice, sambar, rasam, papad, pickles, payasam and desert.
The poori puffed up really nicely – so soft and fluffy and light.
We also tried the uddin vada (RM 3.30). It is actually fried lentil doughnuts served with chutney and sambar. With crispy skin and fluffy, light centre; it is really different from the usual cold and densed vada that I’ve tried.
Even the masala tea and coffee is good here. MTR is getting very popular since it opened in KL, so do avoid coming here during peak dining hours.
