Mid Autumn Festival that is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the traditional lunar calendar is one of my favourite festivals. Families gather for dinner, lanterns are seen everywhere, and people enjoy staring at the bright full moon while having aptly named moon cakes as desserts.
This year, Mandarin Oriental’s decadent, hand-crafted mooncakes are presented in elegant oriental-designed gift boxes.
Apart from their popular all-time classic favourites, the fruity snow skin flavours and sinful chocolate mooncakes are set to add delight to your Mid-Autumn Festival.
The limited edition gold coated pandan with single yolk (RM 48) will certainly add a touch of luxury to this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a best selling item because these are ideal to be given away as gifts.
sinful chocolate mooncakes (RM 47)
-Cuvee Bali, Praline feuillentine, dark chocolate cream
-Gold dusted, sesame crunch gianduja, oolong tea ganache
-Dulcey chocolate, Jasmine caramel, biscuit pearls, banana ganache
Snowskin Musang King Durian (RM 232 per box)
Musang King Durian Snowskin Mooncake is being introduced this year because the chef mentioned that there are plenty of stable supply this year. The mooncake can only last for 3 days as pure durian pulp is being used, without any addition of food preservatives. Every bite of this chilled mooncake is a treat to the senses.
I also love my traditional moon cake such as lotus paste and red bean paste, with or without egg yolk. The assorted nuts mooncake from Mandarin Oriental KL is one of the best that I’ve ever tasted – nutty with contrasting textures in every bite.
