New restaurants debut every week, but Joloko, Kuala Lumpur is set to be KL’s hottest dining spot this year and you’ll see why.
Located in Chow Kit beside Hotel Stripes, Joloko, Kuala Lumpur transports us to a tropical paradise. Joloko offers a delicious selection of spicy Caribbean style BBQ from the grill, Mezcal and Tequila, all sorts of home fermented fruit wines, and cocktails that will make you feel the ocean breeze.
Upon entering the premise, we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to the bar area.
From the bar area, we entered into the dining area with an open kitchen that give guests a glimpse into the action.
We also ventured upstairs for a quick peek (it was closed for a private event when we were there).
It reminds me of Merchant Lane and Cocha Food Store, in which I later found out that Cocha and Joloko engaged the same design architect Shin Chang.
We had some wines and a mocktail to start. They have an extensive beverage list of specialty cocktails, beers, wines, fermented wines, tequilas and etc.
The food is an interesting mix of Caribbean, African, Mexican and most of the starters sound good! We had the Roasted Cauliflower with Tahini (RM 25). It was perfectly tender and packed with flavour, really good with the nutty and creamy tahini.
The Guava Glazed Prawn Tostadas (RM 35) was amazing too! The prawns were fresh and firm, together with the crunchy fried corn tortilla and the tangy pickled cabbage – it is a well balanced dish.
However, our mains of pork ribs with passion fruit glaze (RM 85) was a bit of a let down. The ribs had a nice smoky flavour but it was a tad too dry for our likings. Their home made hot sauce is the bomb though – really hot and fiery. We can’t wait to revisit so that we can try out more items from the menu.
Joloko is set to become one of the hottest hangouts in KL, so remember to call for reservation. Oh and they accept cash only (for now).
