Vertigo & Moon Bar
There is no shortage of rooftop bars and restaurants in Bangkok where one can take in the incredible views and enjoy a great cocktail or fabulous meal. We have been to a few rooftop bars in Bangkok and I have to say that Vertigo & Moon Bar remains as our top favourite.
Set against beautiful skyline, Vertigo offers an al fresco dining experience set atop a roof terrace overlooking the glittering cityscape of Bangkok – a grill-and-bar experience that is Asia’s first. Moon Bar located on the 61st floor offers the same unobscured views of the city and premium drinks, such as the classic Vertigo Sunset, a melody of pineapple, cranberry and lime juices blended with just the right amount of Malibu.
I like how Banyan Tree’s Vertigo al-freso dining area is significantly less crowded than Sirocco. The vibe is very relaxing and there is a good mix of foreign tourists and locals alike.
We arrived early for sunset and was delighted that we got seated at a table that offers the most stupendous panoramic views of Bangkok city.
The birthday boy was very, very pleased.
Our wait staff is the loveliest – he was chatty, attentive and he took some of the best shots for us.
The rooftop dining experience in Bangkok is a must-do for any visitor to the city, topping the list alongside the much cliched floating markets or old city temple tours. So the set menus at Vertigo start at 2,700 Baht pp for the 3 course menu and paired with complimenting wines it goes to 3,800 Baht pp. For our visit we went with the 4 course set menu (3,600 Baht) paired with the wines at 4,900 Baht per person.
The four courses include amuse bouche, appetizer, soup, main and dessert, and each course comes perfectly matched with individual wines. The portion was so generous that I had difficulty finishing my mains, while KampungBoy let out a sigh of relief because he was worried that there’s not enough food to feed him!
We were so surprised to receive a complimentary birthday cake from the restaurant.
Every guests who dine here will receive a box of chocolate and printed photo as keep sake.
Saffron
Saffron is a suave and sophisticated Thai restaurant located on the 51st and 52nd floor of theBanyan Tree Bangkok Hotel,
The adjoining Latitude Lounge makes the perfect spot to start off the evening in, with panoramas even better than the indoor dining area. And the Saffron kitchen has plenty of signature cocktails to welcome the night, such as the local tom yum, made with white rum, lemongrass, kaffir lime and chili.
A contemporary décor to suit the contemporary palate, Saffron is located on the 52nd floor and boasts sublime views of Bangkok City. With divine signature dishes that include seared Tasmanian salmon with crisp pork crackling and a spicy citrus dressing, banana blossom salad with perfectly grilled and marinated prawns served with a coconut dressing and fried banana flowers, your tastebuds are certain to be piqued to perfect pleasure.

Our jaws dropped in awe the moment we walked in. The views from the dining room offer a vista of the entire Bangkok skyline, most attractive just after sunset, when all the lights come on and the city glows below. I’ve told you that everywhere you go in Banyan Tree Bangkok, you get to see the best city view.
The food here did not disappoint as well, as we were told that the chef will personally visit the wet market every morning to ensure that only the freshest ingredients get to delivered to patron’s tables. Even the complimentary starter of rice crispies with various dipping sauces were so good.
We had the 6 course Siamese Set (1950 baht pp without wine, 3250 baht pp with wine). Love everything about this menu; the crispy squid with squid ink sauce, seared tasmanian salmon with crispy pork crackling and spicy citrus dressing, tomyum, beef tenderloin green curry, wok tossed chicken and cashew nuts, they were all so delicious.
Each dishes is being paired with local wines, such as this amazing red from Hua Hin Hills vineyard. We have visited the vineyard during our trip to Hua Hin three years back, drinking this brought back memories.
I love the fancy rice platter, one can opt for hill’s rice, jasmine rice, saffron rice and etc. Saffron rice is a must try here.
Chilled butterfly pea jelly, agar agar served with lychee ice cream.
Even the petit four looked so dainty and delectable.
We really enjoyed the food here – great traditional Thai flavours paired with some of the high-end fresh ingredients. Service was friendly and attentive too!
The adjoining Latitude Lounge makes the perfect spot to start off the evening in, or to take a small break in between meals.
Vertigo TOO
I would say that Vertigo TOO is a hidden gem in Banyan Tree Bangkok. Located on the 60th floor, Vertigo TOO offers the exact same view as Moon Bar, but in an indoor and air-conditioned setting. The arched ceiling of this indoor bar is covered in a canopy of lights, mimicking a starry night.
We love the relaxing lush loungers where we can put our feet up, while feasting our eyes to the stunning views of Bangkok cityscape and the Chao Phraya River. The drink’s menu is excellent with many of the resident bartender’s creation and the live jazz band here is so, so, so good that we stayed for hours.
This concludes our amazing 3D2N stay in Banyan Tree Bangkok. First posting was about our room and the hotel’s amenities. Hope you enjoyed reading it!
