We love Spanish and Italian cuisines so when I hear of an “Italian wine bar married with Spanish tapas”. we were thrilled!!
Sapore is a hidden jewel in Ampang, KL manned by Chef Fabio Ruggiero; the man behind the awesome Spanish delights originated from Bari; the capital city of Italy’s Puglia region.
Sapore is a simple, no-frills casual restaurant that focuses on nothing but good food and good wines.
Chilean White Wine – Sauvignon Blanc
Sangria Red Wine – RM28
Prosciutto di Parma Ham – RM30
Love the depth of flavour, its texture and the balance of saltiness and sweetness. So good!
Lardo Flavoured Tuscany Pork Lard – RM25
Dry cured pork lard is something new for us. Seasoned with rock salt and black pepper and sliced in super thin, it is a melt-in-the-mouth delicacy. It goes really well with Sapore’s home made Focaccia too (RM5)
Anchovies Marinated in Olive Oil – RM22
Delicious fresh anchovies marinated in vinegar, olive oil and garlic is a popular tapas in Spain. The anchovies have fragrant, delicately flavoured flesh that we really enjoyed.
Pork Ribs Barbecue Sauce – RM25
Potato Cake Apulia Style – RM14
Eggplant Parmigiana Style – RM18
We also tried three types of tapas in casserole dish. The potato cake was creamy, smooth and velvety while the eggplant was bursting with great flavours.
Roasted suckling pig (1 whole pig RM368 / Half pig RM198)
An off menu item, the roasted suckling pig is tedious to make to prior reservation is required. It was prepared to perfection – not too fatty, the skin is crispy, not too oily, and it’s so tasty!
Spaghetti Aglio Olio Crumbs & Anchovies Pecorino and Baby Tomatoes – RM26
The classic spaghetti aglio olio combines the flavors of peppery olive oil, pungent garlic, spicy red pepper, crunchy breadcrumbs and briny anchovies. Altogether, this spaghetti delivers big on umami flavor.
Rigatoni Rosticciana Tube Pasta & Stewed Iberico Pork Ribs, Tomatoes – RM 38
Al-dente tube pasta with slow-cooked fork tender pork ribs, what a great combination!
Spaghetti Carbonara – RM28
You can hardly go wrong with Spaghetti Carbonara. Needless to say, Sapore’s version is good!
For desserts, we tried the Queso Manchego with honey – RM22. Manchego is a moderately aged, hard sheep’s milk cheese. We enjoyed dipping it into the honey for a sweet-savoury sensation. We also tried three classic Italian desserts – Panna Cotta – RM12, Vanilla Creme Brulee – RM16 and Tiramisu with Coffee & Kalua – RM20.
Well done to Chef Fabio and his team for the great selection of dishes and great execution. We wouldn’t mind returning to Sapore with friends and families as most of their food is meant for sharing, staying true to the Italian’s spirit.
