“我搭飛機多過搭巴士” is a Chinese saying implying that person is so well travelled that he/she flies more frequently than taking bus rides. Not meaning to boast (it’s actually quite tiring) but this happens to me too, as I find myself at the airport almost every month, either for work or for leisure.
I actually dread the airport transfer part more than anything else. The time and money spent could actually cost more than my flying time and my air fare. For example, my flight to Phuket costs me only RM 100 ish and in under an hour, I would be arriving to a beach paradise!
Being a savvy traveller, I’ve done some comparison on some of the airport transfer options available.
Option 1: Taxi + E*L Train
Taxi Fare to KL Sentral: RM 20
E*L Train to KLIA/KLIA2: RM 55
Total Amount: RM 75
Taxi Ride: 20 minutes
Waiting Time: 10 minutes
E*L Train to KLIA/KLIA2: 28 minutes
Total Time: 58 minutes
Option 2: Taxi + Airport Shuttle
Taxi Fare to KL Sentral: RM 20
Airport Shuttle to KLIA/KLIA2: RM 10
Total Amount: RM 30
Taxi Ride: 20 minutes
Waiting Time: 10 minutes
Airport Shuttle to KLIA/KLIA2: 60 minutes
Total Time: 1.5 hours
Option 3: Taxi
Budget Taxi Fare to KLIA/KLIA 2: RM 80 to RM 120
Total Time: 1 hour
Option 4: GrabCar
GrabCar to KLIA/KLIA 2: RM 65
Total Time: 1 hour
For only RM 65 one way, Grab Car offers the cheapest car ride to or from KLIA/KLIA2 ever! Plus, it saves us a lot of time too!
The fare is fixed with no extra charges except for tolls. You can also opt to pay with cash or credit card. Usually I would opt for the card option as I do not like to carry too much cash around. Most importantly, the door to door ride service is really convenient especially when you have a few bulky items with you.
So, how do I take off to/from KLIA/KLIA2 with GrabCar?
Step 1: Download the Grab app and tap the GrabCar (Economy) icon.
Step 2: Choose your payment method (Cash/Credit/Debit).
Step 3: Choose your Pick-up point within the Klang Valley. Choose KLIA/KLIA2 for your Drop-off point.
Step 4: Book your ride and away we go.
Some pointers to keep in mind:
1. For your ride from KLIA/KLIA2 to anywhere in Klang Valley, remember to select the gate number that you will be at as the point of pick up. This allows your GrabCar driver to easily and quickly identify your location, to save you time
2. Should you require bigger bootspace, please book a Teks1m through the Grab app. You will be charged a metered fare.
3. Each GrabCar can only fit maximum 4 people. Therefore, if you have more than 4 people, please book additional GrabCars.
4. It is advisable to sit in front when your GrabCar arrives.
