Memory Makers @ Traders Hotel KL

Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood. Whether it was our mom’s homemade noodles or a memorable pandan layer cake, food has a way of transporting us back to the past.

Now you can discover a fresh blast from the past at Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur. They have recently launched their Memory Makers series at all the restaurants and bars under the hotel. Seven Memory Makers dishes were recreated from the signatures at the Traders Hotel Group.

We started off with two signature cocktails. They were potent and as legendary as the famous Sky Bar KL.

    Sky 33 (RM 35 nett)

A fruity concoction with kiwi juice muddled with vodka on ice. Cubes of kiwi vodka jelly for that added kick. Available at Level 33 Sky Bar.

    Selangor Sling (RM 48 nett)

It is an improved version of their signature cocktail, made with Tanqueray gin, hibiscus syrup, elderflower syrup, pineapple juice, a dash of Absinthe, shaken and topped with a roselle flower. Available at Level 33 Sky Bar.

For Gobo Upstairs, we have two Memory Makers dishes – Mushroom Tea (RM35)  and 3some Meat Platter (RM250 for 2 persons). I loved the wild mushroom infused consommé that is being poured onto a glass with more mushrooms inside. It has a clean, deep flavor with a little nuttiness and earthy flavour. The crispy salted tempura oyster mushrooms were juicy and tender on the inside.

The 3some Meat Platter came looking really substantial. There’s roasted spring chicken with pumpkin puree, lamb rack with artichoke and coriander pesto as well as tenderloin steak with rosemary and Bordelaise sauce.

I love how the thick slab of beef was cooked to perfection and still runs with juices when we sliced into it.

The juicy, flavourful lamb rack went really well with the artichoke and coriander pesto.

I enjoyed having these fresh and crisp greens – broccolini, baby carrot, asparagus and cherry tomatoes.

I would always avoid roasted whole chicken in a restaurant, but Trader’s version is juicy and tender while the skin is crisp and golden brown.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 (RM 30 nett, available at Gobo Chit Chat)

This national favourite of Malaysian is given a refreshing upgrade, making it a more refined dish. The rice is steamed in the coconut shell together with the coconut water and milk, giving it a creamy texture and a very intense coconut-y aroma. Best-giler when eaten together with spicy prawn sambal, anchovies and ayam berempah. One can opt for chicken rendang too, but nothing beats a piece of crispy deep fried yam berempah.

We loved it so much that we had one each, and we polished our plates clean. It is so worth the extra calories intake!

We think that the nasi lemak in Trader’s Hotel could be as significant as the chicken rice in Mandarin Orchard Hotel. Thanks for doing us proud, Trader’s Hotel! L

Le Bon Vivant Ice Kepal (RM 20 nett, available at Gobo Chit Chat)

This would be the memory makers for my parents, as they always tell the tales of them having ice kepal while dating. Remember to dig further to discover the ice cream core beneath the layer of shaved ice.

Cherry BOMMM (RM 30 nett, available at Gobo Upstairs)

Food porn alert! Remember to look closely as the dark chocolate poured over a beautiful white chocolate sphere on a bed of edible flowers, raspberries and crumbles. It is such a beautiful piece of art! It is one of the richest, darkest, most decadent chocolate desserts I’ve ever eaten.
