It has been a while since I enjoyed myself so much in a wine pairing dinner. It could be the food, the wine, and most importantly having someone from the estate itself. Sonia from Zaccagnini wine estate is charismatic and friendly with a great sense of humour.
She told us the story of Zaccagnini, which makes us appreciate the wines that we were tasting even more. Coming from a small town in the Abruzzi region which guards important treasures and traditions, Zaccagnini company has been established in 1978. Starting from a family-run business, the Winery has grown rapidly and steadily with the goal of “absolute quality, from cluster to glass”, reaching the current condition of an international reality with more than 300 hectares of beautiful vineyards, well-kept and monitored at every production stage. Excellence, passion and devotion to job have made Tralcetto’s wines the pride of Abruzzi’s wine production appreciated all over the world.
So much wines, bring it on!
We started off with a rich and comforting Frech Onion Soup with Cheese Crouton. It is being paired with Il Bianco Di Ciccio IGT 2014. It is a very delicate wine with extremely pleasant aroma. What a great start to our meal!
Next up, we had the Chicken Roulade with Spinach Cream. The chicken roulade was tender and moist and went very well with the creamy spinach cream.
We paired it with a beautiful intense ruby red Kasaura Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Doc 2013. It is a full bodied and well balanced wine with nice grape aromas.
Our third course was a Grilled Tiger Prawns on Basil Pasta Neopolitan. The pasta was delicious with great flavours that I love it to every bits. The tiger prawns were perfectly grilled with a succulent bouncy texture.
Again, a perfect pairing with the Il Bruno Dei Vespa Rosso Puglia IGP 2014.
The Braised Venison Fillet with Red Cabbage, Mushroom Ragout and Cranberry Sauce is another brilliant dish. The venison fillet was extremely tender and flavourful. I sighed life’s good when I took a sip of the Il Rosso Dei Vespa Primitivo Salento IGT 2014.
Casa Rosa is actually a sister restaurant of the famous Jake’s. How could we not having some steaks then? Chargrilled Grain-fed Australian Sirloin with Jake’s Very Own Blasting Sauce was downright delicious! It was done perfectly, medium rare with a pink soft centre and slightly crusty outer later.
San Clemente Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2011. It is also my favourite red of the day. I like the characteristic and intense perfume of cherries with hints of smoke and coffee. It is a full-bodied and robust wine.
Cheers to great wine and great food!
Dessert was a wobbly Panna Cotta with Vanilla Beans and Cherry Coulis. This Italian classic is made perfect with real vanilla beans, imparting a nice flavour and aroma to it.
Thanks for having us again. If you are a big fan of Jake’s, you should try out Casa Rosa in Mont Kiara!
