Gyukingu Japanese BBQ Restaurant @ Sri Hartamas

After all these years, we are glad to see that Gyukingu that claims itself as the best Yakiniku BBQ restaurant in Malaysia is still doing very well. In fact, they are getting so popular that a second branch was opened in Desa Sri Hartamas. It is located at the quieter part of Desa Sri Hartamas (opposite Old Town, near Souled Out) but that does not defer patrons from visiting Gyukingu for some great quality meat.

We were glad that the same premium meat and cut such as Saga beef from Kyushu island, Australian Wagyu, Angus, Iberico pork and Sakura pork are offered here.

Yakiniku is a type of cooking where various types and sections of meat are grilled over direct heat on a wire mesh, and Gyukingu uses charcoal grill instead of a gas/electric grill. _B050220 It is the best way to enjoy A5 Saga Zabuton (RM153.70/100g). Everyone has heard about Kobe beef but actually Saga Beef is recognized as one of the best brands in Japan, ranking with Matsuzaka Beef and Kobe Beef.  It features fine meat with the perfect marblings. Saga region is located next to Fukuoka. Its mild climate, pure water and clean air results in some of the most flavorful, rich, sweet taste of this highest graded Japanese beef. Needless to say, we enjoyed our grilled saga so much!  _B050175 Wagyu Sashimi is another way to enjoy the Saga beef. The whole slab of meat just melted in our mouths in a jiffy, it happened so quick just like how ice cream melted. So, so good!  niu da wang Great wines go hands in hands with great meat. We had some perfect pairing with wines from Straits Wine Company – Maison Saint AIX Rose 2014 and Vina Real Crianza 2011.

Other than Saga beef, Gyukingu is also famous for their Special Beef Tongue (RM45.40).

We were told to grill the ox tongue for only one minute on each side and the best condiment is just a dash of lemon juice. It is hands down the best ox tongue that we have ever had!  Even now, I can remember how springy yet juicy and succulent those slices of grilled ox tongue were.

Let’s get down to some porky business! Acorn-fed Iberico Pork is intensely sweet without that “porky” odor.

Its fat so soft that it melts almost immediately. We love the complex, intense flavor, with a note of sweetness that is unparalleled.

_B050225Australian beef sirloin (RM33.90) _B050227 Sakura Pork Belly (RM18.90) _B050235 Gyukingu also offers some cheaper cuts of meat. These are the cuts that some of meat lovers love not only are they inexpensive, but they’ve got character. When cooked just right, they were equally delicious.  _B050230I think I’ve found the best Garlic Fried Rice (RM9.30) in KL!  This humble plate of fried rice exhibits flavours, texture and aroma. It was so fluffy and not too sticky, with distinct, individual grains. The garlic aroma was really tempting too!

    Bring in more booze please!

Even the desserts were great! I really love the Macha Ice Cream Shiratama Anmitsu (RM14.60) served with red bean paste, black sugar, jelly and rice ball! The black sugar released an enchanting blend of sweet and smoky flavours, so so good when paired with the matcha ice cream.

Remember to quote “KampungBoyCityGal” for 10% off your total drinks (including beverages/alcohol) + free ice cream. Promotion valid till 31st January 2015. Thank you Cleansui Malaysia for organizing this food review too. This is an invited session, however we have been a paying customer to Gyukingu for years, as we were swooned over by their great quality meat.
