If you are a big fan of Cielo Dolci, you will love Whimsical Cafe – brought to us by the brainchild behind some of the most ingenious gelato flavours in Malaysia. Think nasi lemak gelato, popcorn gelato, teh tarik gelato, etc.
Whimsical Cafe is not all about gelato; however gelato plays a big role in the menu creation. I love how the owners incorporate gelato into both savoury courses and desserts.
A cute looking gelato hut is spotted in front of Whimsical Cafe’s facade. One can always order different flavours of gelato that are individually stored in Pozzetti tubs in stainless steel storage. This keeps the gelato in the perfect temperature as the tubs were perfectly insulated, ensuring a smooth texture.
We were here on a Saturday afternoon and the cafe was packed to the brim. My friend’s order of Whimsical Breakkie (RM 29.50) came in a decent portion with lamb sausages, beef bacon strips, sautéed mushrooms, baked beans, scrambled eggs and savoury waffles. Rise & Shine (RM 24.50) seems like an interesting alternative as one can choose to pair it with Cielo Dolci Beef Bacon Gelato.
You ‘Goat’ Me is a cute and funky name for the baked egg dish with lamb sausage & goat’s cheese. My friend was happily digging in so I would assume that it was delicious!
Even muesli (RM 15.90) is given an interesting tropical twist here. Whimsical Caffe serves it with coconut gelato laced with Gula Melaka and honey cinnamon milk.
My order of La Granja reminds me of patatas bravas in Spain, only better and bolder in flavours. There were corns, potato cubes, mushrooms and chorizos all in one casserole.
I love the creamy yolk oozing out as I poke my knife through it. Break the cheese flavour crisp into the casserole and give everything a good stir. The result was an explosion of flavours and textures. So delicious!
Whimsical offers both sweet and savory waffles. My friend ( RM21.90) had the sweet one with vanilla cinnamon gelato, strawberries, lashes of chocolate ganache and almond flakes. It was crispy on the outside, and soft inside.
Curiosity got the better of us so we ordered the nasi lemak gelato. It tasted almost like the real thing – with chili sprinkles, peanuts and a dusting of anchovies on top of a base of coconut gelato.
Cotton candy affogato (RM13+) is another must order item here. Apart from being instagram-worthy, the affagato-cotton candy-gula melaka combination was heaven in your mouth.
As I poured the espresso into the cup, breaking through the fluffy and airy cotton candy, it revealed a scoop of coconut and gula mekala gelato underneath.
Food is served from 9am to 5pm
