Taste Enclave @ Avenue K, KL

Taste Enclave @ Avenue K is a new food court in the city centre that offers the working crowd and tourists a wide selection of local and international food in a brightly lit, cool and comfortable environment. From 16 nostalgic hawker stalls to 4 mini restaurants serving authentic cuisine on a single space, there seems to be no end when it comes to choices.

I like how Taste Enclave incorporated four mini restaurants within the space. The first is Svea Café, a Swedish café with Scandivanian specialties; Grandeur Teppanyaki that serves up pan grilled chicken, beef or seafood; Omoya’s chef hails from Osaka so do expect t some exotic Japanese dishes here; Xi Qing Seafood Restaurant that allows you to choose live seafood from tanks.

We ordered an assorted seafood teppanyaki set from Grandeur Teppanyaki (RM 17.90). The shrimp, squid and scallops set was cooked to perfection and went really well with their home made sauce. One can be prepared to be entertained while dining here, there is also a special menu that consists of foei gras, lobster and wagyu beef available by request.

I have to admit that my Swedish food knowledge and experience is limited to what Ikea’s cafe is offering. However, Svea Cafe that serve classic and hearty Swedish dishes opens up my eyes. Some of their signature dishes are Swedish meat balls, pork chop, seafood cake and pizza. The grilled salmon with baked mashed potatoes (RM 19.80) is value for money. The salmon was delicious when paired with their special tangy sauce. The mashed potatoes were so creamy and luscious.

Xi Qing Seafood’s marmite pork ribs was one of the best that I’ve tried. The ribs were meaty and super tender with great flavours from the marmite coating.

Tong’s Roast is a prominent roast meat wholesaler in Pudu Market. The family’s own unique recipe was brought forward to Taste Enclave. The Honey Glazed BBQ Pork and Roasted Pork (RM 15) platter had a decent portion. The char siew was moist and flavorful on the inside and caramelized and slightly chewy on the outside.

The roasted pork with crisp crackling but succulent moist meat was a crowd pleaser too!

Hailing from Vietnam, and with 5 outlets in Singapore, Ythu Wendy Vietnam Cuisine is offering the same Vietnamese delights such as Vietnamese rolls, grilled meat dishes, noodle dishes and special salad here. We tried Wendy’s special mango salad (RM 6.90) and it was really appetizing! This salad will blow you away with its tastebud- awakening flavors and mix of textures.

Stall No 21’s Song Kee beef noodles needs no introduction as it has been serving the same bowl of noodles since 1945.

Wrap Time’s roasted beef and chicken with Mediteranean rice (RM 11.40) is served in a generous portion with sides of salad. It was nothing to shout about as the roasted meat was a tad too dry for our likings.

Pudu’s Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice is one of the highlighted stalls in Taste Enclave. This set of clay pot chicken rice, soup, vegetables and tofu costs RM 19.80.
    P2260360
Just like its original outlet in Pudu wet market, Heun Kee uses a two way heat system, i.e. the clay pot is heated from the base using charcoal and hot coals are also placed on top of a metal lid that is used to cover the clay pot during cooking. This ensures the flavors and juices of the chicken are further sealed in, resulting in a more taste and fragrant dish. The marinated chicken was succulent and the rice was smokey and flavourful with crispy bits.
    P2260381
Sentul Ah Yap Charcoal Hokkien Mee is also no stranger to most of us. The charcoal fire fried noodles was full of wok hei, just like its other stalls.
    P2260384
Jalan Kayu Prata’s nasi briyani chicken (RM 14.90) is of the Dum Briyani variety. The meat is cooked together with the rice, thus enabling the meat’s juices to add much flavour to the rice. It is also one of kampungboy’s favorite food in Taste Enclave.

Originating from Singapore, Mandarin Chicken Rice dish up fragrant chicken rice and succulent chicken with imported condiments and chili sauce.

We are saving the best for the last! Golden Hot Pot from China is very addictive. Its dry paste is made from 40 different types of herbs of chilies. Just choose from a selection of poultry, seafood and vegetables for your hot pot. We love the numbling sensation!
