Feeka Coffee Roasters @ Jalan Mesui, KL

I used to frequent the coffee shops and hawker stalls along Jalan Mesui a lot. It was a place that I went for my wantan noodles, chap fan (economy rice), pork noodles and iced coffee extra “kao” fix. However, as time went by, new cafes and trendy pubs took over that stretch of shop lots along Jalan Mesui. I like how these new eateries maintained the old heritage shop-lot facades while bearing some modern elements.

Though my RM5 chap fan is gone and replaced by coffee that costs as much as RM10, I still go back to Jalan Mesui to enjoy my brunch at Feeka Coffee Roasters. There aren’t many comfortable spaces in the city centre where one can have coffee and hang out, and I am glad that Feeka is here to stay. It is also the brainchild of the good folks from Food Foundry and Butter + Beans, so there are some forms of quality assurance here.

I love Feeka’s interior. It embraces bright colours and tactile textures to create a contemporary cafe look. Bare brick walls with paints chipping off here and there, a tree growing at the yard and bare light bulbs hanging off the ceiling all add to the cafe’s charm.

The menu features freshly made pastries, cakes, sandwiches and light meals with coffee. The barista uses a mild blend of roasted beans to brew smooth and light coffee.

The beef sandwich (RM18) here is delicious. Slices of juicy sirloin are served on top of a piece of warm, crispy roasted rye bread, and come with horseradish relish, Swiss cheese, arugula leaves, roasted tomatoes and caramelised onions.

The eggs in the scramble platter (RM16) are done right – creamy, runny and well-flavoured. The sauteed lamb sausages are well-spiced with Middle Eastern flavours, and are very enjoyable.

Feeka omelette (RM16) with sauteed mushroom with herbs, sweet tomato jam, sautéed cauliflower and wild cheddar is quite perfect with the middle of the omelette left a little runny and oozing with cheese. There is also a slight cumin taste that gives it a very interesting dimension.

Feeka is a charming little cafe that attracts a truly diverse clientele. Whether you are in the mood for a relaxing drink or a sinful dessert, Feeka Coffee Roasters is the perfect place to stop off for lazy breakfasts, leisurely lunches, sun-downers or romantic dinners.
