This Valentine’s Day, unleash the beast within you by indulging in a menu that makes a carnivorous’s dreams come true. BEAST is one of the Big Group’s latest venture and it takes price in its pot-to-plate service; featuring juicy steaks, hearty burgers, mouth-watering lobsters and many more delectable dishes.
I love BEAST ambiance, it reminds me of some underground pubs which we went to in London, only posher and larger. There’s old movie spotlights, plush leather armchairs, vintage bike and vintage leather suitcases donning every corner of the restaurant; creating a stylish and quirky ambiance.
Check if you are on cupid’s naughty or nice list this Valentine’s Day, and BEAST will present you with a surprise (!!) based on your naughty or nice rating.
We started our evening indulging on BEAST’s warm, crusty and slightly chewy beer bread, made with Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale.
Our amuse-bouche of gazpacho was a beautiful chilled tomato soup and it was particularly refreshing in the midst this CNY heat.
oysters are a permanent fixture on any Valentine’s Day menu so these salty, briny Irish oysters with mignonette jelly is an ideal beginning to a romantic night ahead. Combining wine, vinegar and eschalot; the mignonette jelly was an acidic dressing which added interesting flavours to the oysters.
Lady and the Tramp Spaghetti to share
BEAST’s hand made spaghetti was long and al dente enough for couples to have that ‘Lady and the Tramp’ moment. The huge meatball served on top was so tender and juicy as the secret lies in the minced meat. We also loved the addition of deep fried spinach with crispy edges that rendered a sweet, nutty flavour that was so addictive.
Cod Confit with Salsa Para, Potato Puree and Spinach.
It was a brilliant dish. The thick slab of cod was sous vide for four hours, keeping the fish moist, flaky and delicate. We were also told that the potato puree was made of only grade A potatoes, resulting in a slightly starchy and sticky texture. Very interesting!
Since BEAST takes pride in its meat, we also had the beef tenderloin with creamy polenta, mushroom sauce and spinach in the menu. The tenderloin was cooked in a Josper oven, an oven that grill and works 100% with charcoal set. This results in a perfectly charred flavour on the outside and tender beefiness on the inside.
Our sweet ending came in the form of a Deconstructed Tiramisu that was delicious and looked so much fun. The potent blend of coffee liqueurs and VSOP in the creamy, decadent mascarpone cheese was a great pick me up.
Cherries are delicious, especially when paired with chocolate. Remember to feed your other half some cherries before calling it a night.
The 6 course Valentine’s Day dinner with some sharing courses is selling for RM 250 per person. Remember to call and make your reservation for a memorable Valentine’s Day.
Adjourn to a secret drinking hole or private gentlemen’s club Tate for some tantalizing cocktails after dinner. It is easy to walk past this place and overlook the main entrance. Tips? Look our for the top hat and push through the door to reveal a different world inside.
