Ever wonder if Malaysia, as the top gastronomic nation in the region is nurturing its own homegrown celebrity chef? Well, Berita Harian and Gas PETRONAS is taking the effort by organizing Pencarian Chef Selebriti 2 BH dan Gas Petronas which aims to locate amazing homegrown chefs who can do justice to our nation.
The grand prize winner will be walking away with a cash prize of RM10,000 for both individual and professional category. The professional category’s winner will also be a guest writer for a recipe column in Berita Harian on every Thursday, for a period of 6 months. There are also cash prizes for first runner up, second runner up and the top 10 contestants.
20 contestants has been selected to partake in the semi final round of “Pencarian Chef Selebriti 2 BH dan Gas Petronas”; whereas 10 contestants fall under the individual category while another 10 is from the professional category.
The stringent selection process was conducted at Berita Harian’s office on 7th November 2012. The judges went through 100 over participation forms for the individual category and 50 over contestant for the professional category. The contestants attached a set of recipes which includes starter, main course and dessert together with their participation form.
Talented chefs who made it to the semi finals were presented with an apron and chef hat by Datuk Mior Kamarul dan GM of LPG Business Division, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Nik Faizanira Nik Affandi. Apart from announcing the names of the final 20 contestants, rep from Berita Harian revealed the venue for the semi final round on the 1st of December – AEON Bukit Tinggi, Klang. The final round will be held at Piazza E@Curve, Damansara on the 15th of December.
Chef Selebriti Season 2 is going to be very different and more intense. Contestant from the individual category is allowed to bring along the fresh ingredients based on the recipe pre-set by Berita Harian. They are entitled for a kitchen assistant too.
Whereas for the contestants from the professional category, they don’t enjoy the privilege of preparing their own fresh ingredients. Neither can they bring along a kitchen assistant. It will be a real challenge, as the contestants are set to be surprised by the fresh ingredients prepared by the organizer. I can’t wait to watch that!
Professional Category
