OK. another quick post that I churned out during my lunch break.
We have been exploring the Jalan Ipoh/Jalan Kuching/Sentul area lately. One of the first few things that we did was to look for a decent dining place. Zhen Liew Siang is one of them. There is another Restoran Makanan Laut Lau Heong at Sentul Perdana, but we chose to dine at the one in Sentul Raya because it’s in a closer proximity to our *new* place (bid goodbye to PJ/Damansara).
Zhen Liew Siang is a family run no- frills establishment tucked away in a quieter part of Sentul. The restaurant is usually packed with hungry patrons so it is advisable to go earlier or you can expect to wait up to an hour. We started the meal with Siong Tong Lala.
The sweet broth with fried garlic bits and Chinese wine definitely whets the appetite. It was good but I thought that the one from Restoran Boston and Lala Chong fares better.
The stir fried potato leaves were ordered to make us feel better. It was sweet and delicious.
Nam Yu Fried Chicken. The chicken wings came out perfectly breaded, golden and crispy with a distinctive hint of nam yue (fermented bean curd). I felt like ripping all that delicious wing meat off the bone as messily as possible and declared “all mine!”.
Steamed Stingray in Szechuan Sauce. The sze chuan sauce was aromatic, with the right touch of spiciness. The sting ray was fresh, sans the strong ammonia smell.
Other signature dishes include deep fried pork knuckle in satay sauce, banana leaf prawns and sotongs and claypot fish curries. I can foresee that we are coming here more often in the near future. Who bothers to cook when you can get such good food at a reasonable price (total damage: RM50)?
