While everyone was partying the night away as they usher in the new year of 2010, we headed to Lala Chong for some rockin’ Chinese-style seafood. I believe Lala Chong needs no further introduction as they have made a name in the local dining scene as the famous seafood restaurant opposite Terminal 3 of Subang Airport.
Little did we know that they have expanded to Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara, just a little further down from our perennial favourite – Pantai Seafood Restaurant. Good for PJ folks like us!
We started off with the famous pucuk paku tossed with chunks of canned tuna, chili and garlic (RM10). Weird combination but it was really delicious!
Since there were only the two of us, we opted for something simple like San Bei Ji (RM 10)(three cup chicken; 三杯鸡). It was nothing to shout about though.
It is almost a must to order Siong Tong LaLa here, the name (lala chong) itself is self explanatory huh? Well enhanced by rice wine, ginger shreds and chillies; the superior soup was subtly sweet with a hint of flavour derived from the fresh clams. We reckon that it was as good as our favourite siong tong lala from Restoran Boston Baru, Klang.
Other than the famous siong tong lala and pucuk paku, LaLa Chong is famous for their salt baked fish and crab dishes (priced at RM 45 per kg) as well. Good reasons to revisit huh?

Could this be another branch? I thought La La Chong is located near Terminal 3 at Subang. Quite ok the food but I think it’s on the pricier side because a lot of foreigners/businessmen tends to have their dinner/entertainment there as well. Almost like Mei Keng Fatt in Ampang. Nevertheless, I think the food id quite good, especially the La La.

Eh.. the subang wan tutup already lor…
That’s why the new place…
Definitely not an ethical restaurant!!!
The staff there are taking every opportunity to earn more from you. I brought a friend from outstation there the other night and ordered 3 dishes (including a chicken dish) with rice. The served half a chicken that can easily feed 4 person. We could not finish the chicken but still have to pay for it. You can imagin the amount that I paid — a 4 persons price.
I personally feel that the quality of the food served here has been dropping in recent years. Everytime I revisit that place, they seem to mess up something new.. Now crabs aren’t even fresh nowadays…

Had dinner there last nite. Very expensive and absolutely horrible food. The la la is not fresh and has very strong fishy smell. The salted egg crab has little taste. The tilapia is among the most horrible I had.
Go there if you want expensive and horrible food.
hahaha, then u shud try out Ara Damansara branch even worst..
the paku pakis, snow mountain flying fish, soy sauce prawn & fried rice is damn good!!
the snow mountain fly lake fish, paku pakis & lala mee hon are very unique, fastastic!!!
The food quality is Kayu Ara is fantastic, should try thier curry crab, siong tong lala, snow mountain fly lake fish, grilled lamb and even the simple noddle & fried rice is fantastic.
5 STAR!!!
The food is fabolous!! I love the fried tau fu bok!!!
DON’T GO TO LALA CHONG! This was the most awful rip-off that we’ve experienced in many years! I went there for a Father’s Day celebration yesterday, and the service was horrendously slow, rude & terrible. Waiters kept ignoring us, we had to remind them to bring the food and drinks many times, and in the end we had to refill our own tea, and get our own drinks, glasses, and cutlery from the service areas. The utensils were icky and dirty. We even cleared our own table!
The food was bad too. They got a few dishes in our order wrong, and served it so late, that we had finished our meal and were ready to leave by the time they served us the crabs. Oh, and the food was cold.
All in all, a bad experience, and one that we had to pay through the nose for. I’m not a competitor, just a truly unsatisfied customer. Don’t patronize this lousy place!
watch out 1/2 a patin can cost up to R105
