#5 Dubrovnik Restaurant

The two storey high restaurant has adopted a simple but elegant bright white theme which creates an atmosphere that entices guests to relax. The exposed brick wall, even in its unfinished state, is rustic yet refined. It gives the room a more casual, Mediterranean mood, and that mood is enhanced by Croatia’s travel brochures scattered across the table and a screen playing clips featuring the lovely country.

Our Valentine’s Day Set Meal For Two comprises of two shared starter, a huge main course platter, dessert and coffee or tea.

Mango, Avocado & Roast Chicken Salad

This looks like the perfect summery salad. Drizzled with a tangy dressing, this appealing salad makes a colorful and tasty alternative to the usual bowl of greens. The avocado slices were creamy and buttery, the cherry tomatoes and mango cubes were sweet and juicy and the greens were so fresh that I almost felt like a grazing cow.

The cold cuts sets us off well, whetting the appetite for our main courses.

Our eyes opened wide when the huge platter was presented right in front of us. Are you sure that the platter is meant for a couple, instead of 3-4 pax?

The Hickory Baby-Back Ribs is our old favourite. It was moist, full of smoky flavor and finger smackingly delicious!  And the charred bits along the edges are a smoky treat. I like the Dymatite sausage the best. It had great chilli kick, and was packed with juicy meat within. The grilled prime rib eye steak tasted great, but was a little too tough for me. The seared fish fillet was crispy on the outside and juicy within.

The starters and mains were great, but the dessert was bit of a let down though. The cakes turned out to be dry and crumbly.

Thanks to the management of the Nagomi group, it is a privilege for us to be among the first group who sample Nagomi Love Bento, a romantic treats specially crafted for you lovebirds this Valentine’s. The food review session brought us to Nagomi Menara Hap Seng. Little did I know that Nagomi has turned into a full fledged Japanese restaurant, instead of a shabu shabu specialty restaurant. The menu has also undergone a revamp and whilst old favourites remain, there are some new dishes which are well worth trying.

For only RM99++, Nagomi Love Bento is teemed with seafood dishes and other delicacies, including traditional sashimis and with some romantic twist.

The ladies adore the heart shape sushi roll and rose shape sashimis very much. They just looked too cute to be eaten! The guys can’t stop sing praises over the grilled king prawn with cheese and white sauce, soft shell crab salad and suziki senbei. And our sweet ending – rich and decadent chocolate brownies with hazelnut ice cream tasted really good!

Portions were way too big for the ladies; most of us can’t even finish the whole bento. Couple can actually share a love bento and order something else, probably from the ala-carte menu.

All in all, I love the cave-theme interior but the menu has failed in keeping with the theme. Imagine having CKT at such a nice place. The food was rather disappointing too; I can’t be so mean because they are still fairly new and probably need some time to ’settle down’. It would be a great place for chilling out and drinks, but if you ask what about a proper meal? All I can say is let’s just see how thing goes then.

All in all, Yogitree is a very charming, relaxing restaurant with excellent food so go with an empty stomach because you will leave with you belt open. El Cerdo, (means the pig) used to nestle around Tengkat Tong Shin but was shifted nearby, at a walking distance I suppose to Changkat Bukit Bintang. From its exterior, you couldn’t tell it’s serving a rather exclusive meal, but the poshy interior laid down with dimly lit environment, sophisticated furnishings and most importantly the adornment with little piggy figures as well as piggy paintings to match with it.

The layout of restaurant is created to bring back the reminiscent of a wealthy Japanese family home in the olden days complete with a courtyard surrounded by mock houses, and secret corridors. It is an absolute pleasurable experience of dining the genuine Japanese way.

A quaint restaurant plopped amidst the busy KLCC area, Gobo Upstairs has the best food and excellent services for the most reasonable price; the total bill came less than RM 200 for a 3 course meal. 2 hours of parking is free upon validation for total bill above RM 250. However, for those who pay less than RM 250, you can park your car at Suria KLCC (RM 7 flat after 5 pm) and take a slow walk instead of going into the hotel’s parking which charge a higher rate.

I’ve been on a kind of quest lately to fine a really good Japanese restaurant near my home and I’m glad that I found one.
The interior is simple and the colours of the whole restaurant is easy on the eye and rather classy. There’s even tatami rooms with Japanese style table where you sit low to the floor.

The interior is elegant but not overdone, making the restaurant stylish but providing a vague hint of coziness at the same time.

The food was perfectly cooked and presented but the giant, plump seared scallops that we had lacked in flavor. Certain parts of our lamb cutlets were burnt with a bitter note as well. Minor gripes aside, the melt-in-the-mouth braised wagyu beef cheek and braised duck leg were excellent. Max @ iHaus is a simple restaurant where you can appreciate fine cooking at a reasonable price. One can enjoy Chef Max’s cooking for only RM25++ too; just drop by for lunch on a weekday .

Why (here):
Moxie is more than just an exciting addition to KL’s dining scene. It has got indisputable food quality, just like its reputable sister outlets at Jalan Bangkung. Though ‘glam’ dining as such is not light on the pocket (for us lar), Moxie still warrants a revisit. As I am writing this, I can’t help but to keep thinking about the seafood parcel, the cod fish and my banana toffee pie!

Ambiance wise, Rakuzen has one of the most pleasant settings. The starter selection, sashimi selection and sushi selection was good but the same does not go to the skewered grilled item and tempura item.

Why (here):
Just a few doors away from Vintry, Ribs by Vintry has a similar menu but most people come here for their R-I-B-S. Bad business strategy I would say, thou shall never put all your eggs into a basket. But apparently it works another way for Vintry because most of the tables in both premises were seated on the Friday night when we dined in.

It was a very satisfactory dinner, the starters and mains were beyond excellence while we think that we are going to give it a pass to the desserts the next time (wrong choices maybe, as other floggers raved about the desserts).We will definitely be going back and would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Ooo yes, Sage is perfect for Valentine’s Day celebration and to impress your dates as well. Reservation is a must, unless you want to try your luck and get turn down.

Overall Villa Danieli is one of those authentic Italian restaurants that set itself apart from the rest. The food is always great, the wine selection is nice and the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to recommending wine to pair with your food choices.

Xenri is a great place to experience good Japanese food, in a seemingly Japanese atmosphere. Be it food, service or ambiance, it was all great Not so great thing would be the great hole burnt on our pocket but it was all worth it.

Yuzu Japanese Restaurant

Why (here):
Though a meal at Yuzu can take a chunk out of the monthly entertainment budget, it is generally worth it for the excellent quality and ambiance. For something that is light on the pocket, one can always go for the set meal which can easily feed two. The wait staff is always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about everything on the menu too. I wouldn’t mind returning to Yuzu for some quality Japanese food in the future.

I tend to think that most themed restaurants would rely on hype and glitz rather than good food. It comes to my surprise when the food was by no means a dreadful meal, but much of it was mediocre and acceptable, with more rooms for improvement. Full House is exceptionally relaxed and convivial. It creates the perfect atmosphere for any individual to sit, read a book, meet new people, have some coffee or simply hang out.

My Elephant at Happy Mansion has a look of elegance sophistication with some small little details such as daisies, candle light and cute elephant painting. The quality of food has somewhat wavered due to the large crowd. This has not hampered our enjoyment because the award giving ceremony was far more interesting. We’ll definitely return for the ala carte menu due to positive reviews from other floggers’ previous visit.

Valentine’s Day is here again. Do you always dread Valentine’s Day or do you enjoy and anticipate the gift you’ll be receiving and giving away? Regardless of how you feel about The Day, most of my (guy) friends are under immense pressure for being reminded thirty times by their partner to pick a romantic spot for dinner and to make the floral arrangement earlier so that the girls can receive the bouquet in front of their colleagues/school mates. El Cerdo, (means the pig) used to nestle around Tengkat Tong Shin but was shifted nearby, at a walking distance I suppose to Changkat Bukit Bintang. From its exterior, you couldn’t tell it’s serving a rather exclusive meal, but the poshy interior laid down with dimly lit environment, sophisticated furnishings and most importantly the adornment with little piggy figures as well as piggy paintings to match with it.

Fukuya

The layout of restaurant is created to bring back the reminiscent of a wealthy Japanese family home in the olden days complete with a courtyard surrounded by mock houses, and secret corridors. It is an absolute pleasurable experience of dining the genuine Japanese way.

A quaint restaurant plopped amidst the busy KLCC area, Gobo Upstairs has the best food and excellent services for the most reasonable price; the total bill came less than RM 200 for a 3 course meal. 2 hours of parking is free upon validation for total bill above RM 250. However, for those who pay less than RM 250, you can park your car at Suria KLCC (RM 7 flat after 5 pm) and take a slow walk  instead of going into the hotel’s parking which charge a higher rate.

Kampachi Japanese Restaurant

Polished wooden floor stretched out superiorly along with adornments of some customary Jap details and the faint lightings provided the contemporary and swanky ambiance.We were seated in a glass surrounded room, prettified by walls arranged with a wide variety of wines. Well-mannered staffs, good services and food was served at an unhurried pace.
