Hong Kee Dim Sum @ Damansara Jaya

hong kee

I blame it on food bloggers, with reviews like this, this ,this and this, Hong Kee Dim Sum is now pack to the brim every weekends. Like an annoying pest, we stood beside tables that look rather promising with rules of thumb like least food left on the table, the man is digging out $$, the woman is packing and kids were asked to finish the last sip of tea.

The legendary items like sang chao lor mai fan and stir fried raddish cakes were massly produced and shipped off to every single table in a jiffy. Some deep fried items are drenched in oil, when things get a little too messy.

ham dan mai

fried raddish cake

fried prawn roll

fried loh mai fan

egg tart

However, one gets prompt services and quality food on a quiet weekday. Chefs’ creativity are playing well here; offering us with a myriad of possibilities for flavor and texture combinations. Spinach dumpling, deep fried prawn roll with century eggs, sang chao lor mai fan (stir fry glutinious rice) and fried fish paste coated with almond flakes, just to name a few.

I would recommend the egg tart with flaky crust, very aromatic stir fried raddish cake, warm and fluffy char siu bao and har gao with huge succulent prawns. Price is rather reasonable too, a decent meal for two comes less than RM30 most of the time. In a nut shell, it is best to drop by during the week days if you wish to stay awhile and soak up the tranquil atmosphere while indulging in some good dim sums.

Restoran Shabu Shabu @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

P1180754

What can RM 25 buy you nowadays? Quarter tank full of petrol? Two Mcdonald’s value meal? A hair cut (not for some, who’s a regular at Peekaboo/A Cut Above)? An all you can eat shabu shabu buffet? Sounds more like it!

P1180729

Located at Bandar Puteri Puchong, near to Giant Supermarket and same row as Citibank, Restaurant Shabu-Shabu is hard to miss with perpetual queue on a weekend night.Their sister outlet Mizi Shabu-Shabu, located at the other side of Giant, serves only ala carte steamboat are relatively quiet.

P1180738

P1180735

One has the option to go for ala carte steamboat at ground floor or the RM 25 nett PLZ (peng leng zeng) buffet spread at first floor. Quick and no frills conveyor belt concept is adopted, patrons are seated around the kaiten belt and feel free to grab anything/everything that they intended to eat.

P1180742

The more luxurious item like pork slices (being the ONLY type of sliced meat offered) and deep fried snacks are churned out by the serving staff from time to time. If you’ve missed the first round, sit back and stuff yourself silly with more fish balls while waiting for the second batch.

All in all, the shabu-shabu buffet is of different league from Nagomi Shabu Shabu in terms of pricing and quality. However, for a decent malaysianized shabu-shabu or steamboat with some Japanese touch, this place beats Shabu-Shabu King SS2 hands down. Do remember that reservations are obligatory on weekends to avoid long waits.

Day Long Birthday Celebration for KampungBoy

That night, when the clock strikes 12, I knocked on his door with his favourite marbel cheese cake. The cake was a last minute thing, because he was with me all day long and I can’t even sneaked out to get him a cake. My housemate did me a favour by getting me two slices of cheese cake from Secret Recipe.

The candles were lit, he was told to close his eyes, he made a wish and he blew out the candles. The birthday boy resorted back to his B-O-O-K-S after that, it was a stressful exam week after all.

The next day, I made him an ugly looking brunch, a distorted smiley face, please don’t tell me that it’s not a smiley face! He named it Cheeky Breakie with his all time favourite egg mayo, chicken nuggets, cheese (the eye balls, you saw it?), baked beans and toasts. Of course, desserts would be the leftover cheese cakes.

Dinner was at Dapur Nyonya @ Bandar Puteri Puchong. The area is beginning to flourish with many of the commercial lots being filled up, the amount of food places are also blooming like mushrooms after the rain. We found korean bbq, shabu shabu, porridge steamboat, steak house, lamien, thai food, pizza uno, emperor noodles, etc other than the well known bumbu bali and bibi wok.

The honey lemon sea coconut (RM 3.2) was refreshing. We opted for the Set for Two (RM 28), inclusive of thai styled chicken, tom yam soup, mango fish fillet and salted fish vegetables. Famished and inordinately greedy, we ordered dried shrimps buttered soft shell crab (RM 16) too.

Mango Fish Fillet
Dried Shrimps Buttered Soft Shell Crab
Tom Yam Soup
Salted Fish Vegetables
Thai Styled Chicken
Birthday Boy with Gluttony Face
Overall the food was not too bad, how can you get wrong with zest and flavor of sweet, sourish and spicy food ? Everyone loves it. Dapur Nyonya is not an authentic Nyonya place with Nyonya dishes like pongteh and perut ikan missing from the menu. The menu is more like the mixture of thai and chinese for me. Anyway, nowadays good food has no boundaries with fusion of taste that transcends and excites right? Total bill comes about RM 60 which is very reasonable and service is great too.

I told him that it has been ages since we went to a live unplugged music place. Without hesitate, we headed to Wings Cafe Equine Park right after dinner. Actually, his friends were having a little surprise birthday celebration for him over there.

Jasmine Tea for Him
Bubble Milk Tea for Me

The surprise was a sweet one indeed, with the sugary sweet vocal of Wings Cafe singer and such a great ambience, unlike the disaster that he faced last year. Haha.

Memorable birthday celebration last year where his friends slam-bang the cake hard on his face.
The Accounting Gang (Jackson, your favourite is in the picture!! Hehe)

A happy and blissful birthday to you, may this year and all the coming years of you life is glorious and filled with success.

Mizi Shabu Shabu @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Mizi Shabu Shabu is nestled amidst a bustling rows of eateries at Bandar Puteri Puchong. It’s located just behind Bumbu Bali and if you are having a hard time locating this place, try tilt your head up to look for the neon lighted steamboat.

With bright lighting, clean surroundings and japanese style dining area, this place makes a comfortable shabu shabu experience.

This is not like any ordinary steamboat buffet place. You have to order what you want to eat and they will charge you accordingly.

Good news is every diner is entitled to their own pot. You get to personalise or play around your own pot of soup with whatever weird stuff added in without annoying others. It’s more hygenic too.

The dippings made from a mixture sesame, peanut chunks, spring onions and soy sauce is really nice. They will charge extra if you request for another dipping sauce. – -|

Porky Slice (RM 4) that we can dabble in the boiling broth. That’s the fun of having shabu shabu right?

Couple Set (RM 25) that comes with 2 prawns, 2 pathetically small fish slices, 2 fish balls, 2 tiny blocks of yoki tofu, 2 quail eggs, 2 tofu puffs, 1 instant noodle trying to be yee mee and abundance of glass noodles and vegetables. The food is very fresh and the place is very comfortable, so I wouldn’t mind to come back again even though the price is slightly on the higer side compared to Shabu Shabu King ss2.

Restoran Loy Loy TeohChew Porridge @ Puchong Jaya

The weather went haywire nowadays, one moment the sun is burning and another moment it was raining cats and dogs. I caught some flu viruses and was craving for some really watery porridge. So kampungboy brought me here because he’s not sure wheter he can cooked up some really ‘watery’ porridge to my liking.

There are 30++ dishes to be chosen from. Since we went there for late lunch or shall we say early dinner, these are the goodies left.

This is what I want! I call this the perfect porridge, the key is they grinded the fresh grain and cook them for a long period of time.

Pork with preserved raddish

Salted Fish

Kampungboy’s choice – Rice with minced meat, braised egg and sesame fried chicken.

The food is not bad over all, everything has to be salty, this is the culture of Teohchew porridge. Price is pretty reasonable tough, additional bowl of porridge or rice costs only RM0.50.

FE Gathering @ Waterlily Cafe

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We are having our first ever Financial Engineering gathering HERE. It was a joyful event with laughter, nice food and cosy environtment. I’m just looking forward for the second, third and coming gathering where we could get together and have some fun! (Chai Hong, U Shek Do La!)

The ratio of Male vs Female in my class is 1:8, so basically girls dominated all the pictures. Do let me know if you want their contacts. I might consider it if you buy me a meal!

Our lecturer is popular among the girls..We forced him to stretch and lay his hands on the girls’ shoulders and he blushes instantly..

Please do not be surprise at the sight of this! They are the minority odds in my class, or you can say few of the near extinction male spesies surrounded by female spesies all day long. (Standing) Souffi, John, Vincent, Kevin and ehhhh why is Aaron missing in action?

Ooooo Aoran and a couple of friends sneaked out to get HIM a birthday cake! Happy belated birthday to our lecturer, Mr. Thong! He taught us three killer subjects – TDE, TSP and TNA but with his great generosity, we managed to survived!

OK let’s get back to the food..Waterlily Cafe needs no furthur introduction as quite a number of food bloggers had reviewed about it before and this is like my fourth visit there..Their grilled item is the best thing to order as they use some Balinese spices to marinate the meat..These pictures are feast for the eyes..

Bumbu Bali @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Pictures from Sinchew i

DO you know that Waterlily, Buddy-Buddy and Bumbu Bali are under the same mangement or shall I say family owner? Today I’m going to blog about Bumbu Bali. Bumbu refers to herbs of Bali. It was run by the owner, Eddy and his Bali wife.

The big signage always caught the attention of bypassers.

The paintings give me a sense of tranquility..

Menu – I have to say that it has more varieties than their sister outlet Waterlily

Ice Lemon Tea

Papaya, honey and lime

Italian Soda ordered by Yen..Frizzy and Refreshing

My mixed juice – honeydew, honey and mint..What a good combination..Very refreshing!

Es Campur – With sagos, mixed fruits, and coconut candies which I’d never seen for a long time..YQ thinks that its too coconutly..Too much of it and you will throw up..

I pour these dippings on top of my pasta..Crazy girl craving for spicy food..

Lamb Chop..Dun judge the look as it was crispy outside and tender inside..

Siap Memanggang (BBQ Chicken) You gotta order this if you love the aroma of lemon grass..Its half chicken actually, double the size of Nando’s by paying only few bucks more

Nasi Campur Bumbu Bali..The portion is H-U-G-E..55 had a hard time chewing..

My Ladies Pasta with Grilled Chicken (Low fat, low carb konon..Haha..I was ‘amazed’ by the amount of oil left after I clear everything)

With Happy Face and Bloating Tummy..Hahaha

Somehow I still prefer Waterlily than Bumbu Bali. Reasons: I love watching my food being grilled as they have the open kitchen concept, it’s cheaper, and their yam cake makes me drool..

Medan Selera Everyday @ Bandar Puchong Jaya

If you are coming from the direction of Sunway, this open air hawker centre is located on your left side and it is hard not to notice this place unless u keep ur eyes shut..It is known as “The Big Screen Place”among our friends..

Surprise! There’s a stall selling Uncle Bob Crispy Chicken! (RM4.80) I prefer to have it this way, way less messy because it was chopped into pieces..

Sizzling Noodle with Black Pepper RM 5..It was tasteless and the chicken pieces were sooo hard to chew!!

KampungBoy’s Fried Chicken with Rice and Sunny Side Up..RM 4.80..You can get two set of this good stuff with one tiny lil piece of OR CHicken Chop Set..:p

Hakka Fried Meat with Wantan Mee RM 4.50..I feel deceived because it was stew instead of fried..They told me that this was the way Hakka Zha Rou is done..O_o?

Some bad tasting Ikan Pari that doesn’t worth a mention..RM 10

I will only come back for the Uncle Bob Fried Chicken and The fried chicken set..The rest are yet to be discovered..

Birthday Celebration for KampungBoy @ Galaxy KTV

CityGal and KampungBoy
e
It is so sweet for KampungBoy’s coursemates to have an early birthday celebration for him. His birthday falls on 8th of May and coincidently it will be the first day of study week when everyone will be quite busy that time.
r
They had a big surprise ahead of him and they “pakat-ed” me as part of the surprise. I have to bluff that I won’t be able to go with him for some reason while his friend arranged another car for me about one hour later. While I was in the car, he sms-ed me and say “Sien! Forgot to bring camera coz never thought of they are having celebration with me! Wish you were here too”. I just can’t stop laughing because he’s still not aware of the disasters awaiting him..

I bought him a bouquet of daisies..Reason? Coz orange colour daisies look more Macho than roses or what so ever flowers..

Pretty Girls from Faculty of Management..

Good Looking Accountants..Heartthrobs?

Surprise Part 2..While my arrival has caught his attention, his friends slam-bang the cake hard on his face..And a war of the cakes and creams happened in the KTV room..The girls have to do the cleaning up silently without the staff notice..SShhhhh

Poor cake gone into waste

Blueberry Cheesecake from Berry’s..Not nice one..

Buffet Time! It’s such a great deal at RM 10! Look at the varieties but do not expect too much since it’s only 10 bucks. The desserts are nice to see but not nice to swallow. We voted the assam prawns, sotong lemak and baked mussels as the best food around!

Ramai Hawker Centre @ Bandar Puchong

It’s another weekend of grocery shopping at Tesco Puchong. I’m sure that Puchong folks would be familiar with this place. Ramai food centre is located beside Tesco Puchong. If you are coming from the main road, just look at any place with green sign board and CROWDs.

The most happening hawker centre around Puchong area.

Braised duck meat (RM 6). I saw people having this, and intuition told me that this would be nice. The sauce is simply irresistable! After long hours of braising, the duck meat turns out to be tender and the broth has a strong soy sauce smell.

Char Kuey Teow (RM3.50). There’s something wrong with the prawns and clams and the whole thing is too oily.

Stir Fry Lala (RM7). The sauce is just nice with a nice hint of spiciness and some fragrant curry leaves. The crunchy fried shrimps is another adding point too! Kampungboy said that this is a must order item here!
