A Wet Thai Cafe @ Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

IMG_5994

Only a few steps away from the famous Hau Kee, A Wet Thai Cafe too, is bustling with activities comes dinner time. In spite of the surrounding businesses and limited parking, this place is a hidden gem with a wide varieties of authentic Thai cuisine at reasonable prices.
IMG_6119

It is a blessing in disguise that Ai Wei discovered this place and hence suggested it for Wen Ching’s farewell dinner.
IMG_6062

We started off the meal with an appetizer of Miang Kam (RM 12) to tingle the tastebuds. Fold the chaplu leaves into a cone, pile it on with grated coconut , unpeeled lime, shallots, roasted peanuts, dried shrimps, fresh ginger, etc with a generous drizzle of the dipping sauce and pop it into your mouth.
IMG_6091

The entire bundle is eaten in one bite. The myriad ingredients will create a flavor explosion inside your mouth and it is sure to whet your appetite for more!
IMG_6069

IMG_6064

Patrons in A Wet Thai Cafe are served with pandan flavored water. I’ve had lemongrass flavored water at some Thai restaurant; but pandan flavored water is a first. Pretty enticing!
IMG_6038

For mains, we had the grilled mackerel (RM 30). All seafood were grilled and served upon order, thus imparting a hearty, smoky flavor with charred crispy edges. Slowly devour it to allow the natural sweetness of the fish to come through.
IMG_6023
A visit to a Thai restaurant is never complete without tom yam. A Wet’s seafood tom yam (RM 20) is prepared with many types of Thai herbs with the special addition of coconut milk that makes it smoother. It has a subtle blend of hot, spicy and sour flavor but I still like the clear version better.
IMG_6011

Their green curry (RM 16) fares pretty well too. The gravy is so flavorful and creamy and most importantly it is being served with PORK strips! Delicious!
IMG_6043

Deep Fried KangKung (RM 8). A typical example of looks can be deceiving; it tasted really despite the fact that it looked bumpy and lumpy. These bite-sized veges had a good crunch but were fairly soft insides. Adding a dash of the dipping sauce with minced PORK enhances the flavor better.
IMG_6048

The deep fried chili seafood (RM 20) was nothing more than a lackluster dish. :(
IMG_6085

We ordered some carbs for the guys but it turned out to be everyone’s favorite. Mixed with some spicy minced PORK, the Thai fried rice (RM 7.3) was very aromatic and appetizing.
ahwet1

Of all things sweet – Christine & Desserts

After the meal we felt quite satisfied but eventually we gave in to gluttony and ordered some desserts (RM 5.9 each) to be shared among us. The Water Chestnut with Coconut Milk was really good but the rest were not remarkable at all.
ahwet

The total bill came to RM 145.45 (5% service tax). With great non halal (plus point!) Thai food, attentive services and reasonable pricing, I’d say this place warrants a second visit. Thanks Ai Wei for your great recommendation!

Hong Kee Dim Sum @ Damansara Jaya

hong kee

I blame it on food bloggers, with reviews like this, this ,this and this, Hong Kee Dim Sum is now pack to the brim every weekends. Like an annoying pest, we stood beside tables that look rather promising with rules of thumb like least food left on the table, the man is digging out $$, the woman is packing and kids were asked to finish the last sip of tea.

The legendary items like sang chao lor mai fan and stir fried raddish cakes were massly produced and shipped off to every single table in a jiffy. Some deep fried items are drenched in oil, when things get a little too messy.

ham dan mai

fried raddish cake

fried prawn roll

fried loh mai fan

egg tart

However, one gets prompt services and quality food on a quiet weekday. Chefs’ creativity are playing well here; offering us with a myriad of possibilities for flavor and texture combinations. Spinach dumpling, deep fried prawn roll with century eggs, sang chao lor mai fan (stir fry glutinious rice) and fried fish paste coated with almond flakes, just to name a few.

I would recommend the egg tart with flaky crust, very aromatic stir fried raddish cake, warm and fluffy char siu bao and har gao with huge succulent prawns. Price is rather reasonable too, a decent meal for two comes less than RM30 most of the time. In a nut shell, it is best to drop by during the week days if you wish to stay awhile and soak up the tranquil atmosphere while indulging in some good dim sums.

Wa Kiow Yong Tofu @ Peel Road

P1150317

This time around, we venture out of our comfort zone to the infamous Peel Road for Wa Kiow Hakka Yon Yofu that comes highly recommended by Boolicious and Sexy beast. You’ll be surprised at the crowd seen at this little wooden shack smacked between a hardware shop and a beauty salon.

P1150318

Pictures captured beneath the hard stares from “aunty”…

P1150321

The yong tofus are made and cooked on the spot. Other than yong tofu, they serve dishes such as vinegar pork trotters, assam fish, curry chicken and hakka char yoke. To order, just tick on the paper menu and indicate your portion.

P1150334 copy

Our order of yong tofu came piping hot and fresh. Each variety had its own distinguished flavor but the crowd’s favorites are fried sui kows (dumplings) and fried fu pei (bean curd) that was oh-so-crispy. T0 complement the meal, a big dose of fatty pork with wide strips of wood fungus (hakka char yoke) was ordered. The stew was strong with hint of nam yue (fermented bean curd) and the pork cubes were fork tender.

Lin Yuan Steamboat Kitchen @ Queen’s Park Cheras

It’s an early birthday celebration for KampungBoy’s fourth sister, Tong at Lin Yuan Steamboat Kitchen at Queen’s Park, Cheras. It was our very first time to Queen’s Park, the open-air retail park concept is quite a unique shopping experiences.

Lin Yuan is reputable for the freshest seafood brought in from Pulau Ketam everyday and it takes 4 – 5 hours to make the soup base everyday by using tender chicken meat and quality dry seafood, no MSG or preservatives is added in the cooking process.

P1170396

Apart from steamboat, Lin Yuan also serves Chinese cuisine from simple Chinese dishes such as mouth-watering Fried Yee Mee to delectable Fried Crab with salted egg. While waiting, KampungBoy’s sister ordered the Fried Mee Hon with Stewed Pork to cure our hunger pangs. The canned stew pork is sinfully delicious melt in your mouth texture, and the gravy is evenly soaked up by the mee hoon.

P1170435

Instead of the normal clear broth, tom yam or herbal soup base, we had the Golden Pumpkin Porridge‘ soup base which is a very healthy choice. The thick soup base, being the first in Malaysia (DUN PLAY PLAY) is sweet and creamy.

What we love about Lin Yuan is the open air concept with spacious seating of 60 seats and over 300 carpark bays. Of course, the EXCELLENT services and freshest ingredients will definitely lure us back for a second visit. Total bill comes to RM 170 for 7 pax, which is quite reasonable because we had double serving of everything shown above. Thanks to Tong and BF for footing the bill.

Milwaukee Steak Corner @ Balakong

Milwaukee is renowned for its cheap and great western food. Developed from the hugely popular Harley Davidson bikers from the United States, the Milwaukee Steak Corner set-up has immense potential in becoming the next great franchise in Malaysia. They are having another outlet in Kepong which has a lot of good reviews too.

The cosy ambience makes it a good spot for family and friends get together. Few weeks ago, Kampungboy’s coursemate had a birthday celebration here for petite little Yin Nean and I did not tag along because my ex school mate gathering was going on too. So, no comments on the food because he forgot which was nice and which was sucks.

Original Chicken Chop

Chicken Cordon Bleu

Oriental Chicken Chop

Grilled Ostrich
Cheese Baked Fish
Chicken Maryland
Kampungboy could not keep his eyes off from this cutie pie sitting on the table beside theirs.

A long stretch of future accountants without Kampungboy because he was the cameraman. Happy belated birthday to petite little Yin Nien once again. Location map is available on Milwaukee website.

Steamboat with Bakuteh Soup Base

You can spot this place easily as it is located beside the famous Kaki Corner at Taman Billion. They are having a new opening promotion with RM9.90 per head and hence we decide to give it a try. This place was full with patrons the time we went. Hmmmm..bak kut teh steamboat is distinctive from other ordinary steamboat and it sounds new to us! You can read more about this place from The Star Kuali.

Their dippings..Nothing to shout about..Still prefer those from Coca or BBQ Plaza..

Portion for 5..Quite big huh?? It’s worth it with only RM9.90 per head during promotional period (last until 30 april)

We had both bkt and tomyam soup base..I think they have tone down the herbally taste of bakuteh..It tastes funny at the first bite because I’d never had chicken, fishball, tofu, crabsticks with BKT soup..But it tastes better and better that I can’t stop chewing!

YeeMee is a great match with BKT Soup!! Trust me!!

Fried Bean Curd..My hokkien friend called it “Tau Kee”

Enoki Mushroom which comes seperately RM 7.50 per portion..Love this one as its so crispy..We made a dirty joke out of this but I won’t tell you! Blek

Cheras Makan 3: But Gin But Shan Char Chan Teng

The Menu – But Gin But Shan is a Cantonese phrase, means “See You There”

Their promotional item: Sour soup + Fish

Mushroom Soup with Garlic Bread

Our Yin Yeong (Milk Tea + Coffee)

Grilled Fish FIllet with Garlic Sauce. Our salivas are dripping when we see Emily’s face is filled with satisfaction.

Cheese baked rice

Toast with ice cream and whipping cream as toppings

Baked rice with mixed sauce ordered by KgBoy. The white sauce taste like cream of mushroom to him and the red sauce is some pasta sauce with minced meat. He prefers those from Wong kok one though!

My portugese baked rice with some portugese sauce, raisins, shredded cocnonuts and chicken pieces. I find it weird becaues I can’t stand the smell of the spices they used.

Yeong Chow fried rice

Escargots with mozerella cheese

Longan Milk. This is soooo good that Jiaho ordered the second cup!

Ice blended mango

I apologize for the poor quality of these pictures. My camera is not with me currently. Kampungboy have to snap those foodies with his Nokia 6680. Those food are really appetizing but the pictures convey a different message. Sigh**

Cheras Makan 2: Pan Mee and Beef Noddle

The crews brought us to this Pan Mee specialty place before shooting. How do we judge whether the food is good here? The answer is simple enough, by just looking at the crowds and queues. We had been waiting for 20 minutes just to get a seat.

This place is owned by and runs by a group of talented young people just like me. **Giggles**

Assortment of Chili Dippings

Tong Sui

Dry Pan Mee with Char Siew, Fish Balls and Fried Fish Cake (RM4.50 L RM3.90 R).

The Slimmer Version of Pan Mee. The sauce is not like those ordinary Gon Lou sauce that you found outside, it’s more to the sweeter side.

Those Fish Cakes are real good! I saw the familiar on my neighbouring table having a bowl of plain fish cakes.

Pan Mee with Soup (RM4.50 L RM3.90 R). The soup is simple delicious! There’s something missing here though, I like pan mee with black fungus and fried anchovies!

During shooting break, Kampungboy and me sneaked to this place because their signboard that stated beef innards attracted us!

A small bowl of “Ngao Zap” with beef balls, beef belly, beef stomach

Sorry if this looks disgusting to you, but they taste real good! It’s braised to perfection, the innards and meat has absorbed the soup making it chewable yet soft.

This two places are located at Japan Perubatan Dua, Pandan Indah. The Pan Mee shop is facing the main road while the beef noddle place is adjacent to the corner lot Sweet Memory.

Cheras Makan 1: Sweet Memory For Sweet Tooth

A lot of Cheras’ foodies will be coming up as KampungBoy and I spend two consecutive days here for something. You shall know the something if you read on..Did i keep you in suspense?
wertyuiopfdsasdfghjklp;[']jhgfdsduiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Residing at a busy corner at Pandan Indah, it’s hard not to notice this bright coloured shop. Before this it was known as Sweet Talk but after some renovation it has changed its name to Sweet Memory.

They have cute little bees as ‘mascot’. The owner told us that her customers love snapping pictures in front of this wall paper.

Hey! I spotted some movie star for his movie shooting! Cute guys attract me more than nice food!

He’s so so so so so so C-U-T-E

NG scene – He can’t stop laughing when he see my DROOOOLING face!

Identity reveal! Actually that cute guy is noone other than KampungBoy. We were just helping our friend for their assignment MTV shooting. But why no pictures of CityGal? I’m just camera shy! Nah..I just can’t seem to find a proper picture of mine that can be put above the caption ” Wah chun chick!”

Soon after shooting, we lay back, relax and enjoy their irresistible and mouth watering delight.Their menu lists down a wide range of desserts and main course and it takes a lot of blinks to make up our mind.

The pan fried yam cake (RM 3.00) tastes flat compares to the Taro Cake (RM3.00) that we ordered later on

XO sauce fried udon (RM 7.50) – Taste good but too oily

Seafood Caborana (RM 7.50) – The sauce is creamy and tantalizing!

Abalone Porridge (RM6.50) – I forgot to ask for a verdict

Nissin Noddle with Luncheon Meat and Egg (RM 4.50) – A great deal in the menu but it’s kinda ordinary

Soup Noddle with Salmon Sausage and Egg (RM 4.50)

Fried Breadstick with Rice Noodle (RM3.50) – My choice of the day out of curiosity, Yao Char Keow wrapped with Chee Cheong Fun, they skimped on the sauce but I love the crispiness of the breadstick.

Stir Fry Rice Noodle with Special Sauce (RM 2.50)

Mango Sweet Noodle (RM 5.00) – This is sooo good compared to the Wong Kok one! The hor fun is more jelly like instead of those normal oily hor fun

Pancake with assorted flavours – Mango, Durian, Strawberry (RM5.00)

Mango Pancake – Mango cubes and cream in a fluffy light pancake, 3 different texture and three different taste

Durian Pancake is the highlight of the day! In between the thin layers of pancake lies a sinfully aromatic durian mousse..I can only say heavenly..9 of us actually ordered 7 plate of this..This evil rool is addictive! Gosh I miss them so much!

Creamy Peanut Soup (RM 1.80) – I think they add peanut butter to the peanut soup

Mixed Food Sago Toss (RM 4.80) – The presentation needs some jump of colours but it taste good actually

Red Bean Tangeline (RM 1.80) – The tangerine smell is toooo strong for my taste bud

My second drink Ice Lemon Tea (RM2.00) – It came to my surprise that they didn’t use those concentrated or sachet one

Red Bean Cooler with Coconut and Cream (RM3.00)

It’s located at Jalan Perubaten Dua, Pandan Indah, Cheras. To be more exact, it’s directly opposite Steven’s Corner. This place offers commendable service, relaxing ambience, reasonable pricing.
