    Tangerine @ The Face Suites KL is definitely one of the most underrated fine dining restaurants in KL. How do we justify this bold statement?

    1. This rooftop fine dining restaurant is located on the Sky Deck (Level 51) of THE FACE Suites that comes with views that promise to take your breath away.

    2. The kitchen is led by Chef Siti Arini, an award winning chef who utilises sophisticated cooking techniques and fresh, seasonal ingredients to create modern European dishes, sometimes with a local twist. The menu changes every three months and patrons can choose from  4, 6, 8-course dinner menu as well as a 6-course vegetarian set dinner menu.

    3. A 6-course set dinner is reasonably priced at RM 438 nett per person. Apart from the 6 courses featured in this menu, our dinner opens with an assortment of amuse-bouche – at least 6-7 types. Each and every courses showcase chef’s culinary prowess and personality.

    The first course was a Grilled Australian Avocado dish with yuzu granita, caramelised walnut and organic kale. Love the textural contrasts of crunchy and creamy, warm and cool.

    Double Boiled Curry Bean Consomme

    Then it was a choice of Seared Hokkaido Scallop with noisette sesame, dun pea oil, compressed green pear or Double Boiled Curry Bean Consomme with Japanese wagyu carpaccio, flying fish roe, radish relish. Both dishes have done justice to the beautiful fresh ingredients.

    Pan Fried Foie Gras

    Third course was a choice between Cured Moulard Duck or Pan Fried Foei Gras. Seared until golden brown, the foei gras has a brown crust and custard-like medium rare centre – paired so well with the perfect cranberry brioche (I asked the chef if she sells in loaf!), portobello and porcini duxelle and fungi veloute.

    The Cured Moulard Duck (think duck proscuitto) was rich, fatty, deep in color and flavor. Well balanced with smoked leek capellini and truffle beurre blanc.

    For mains, KampungBoy opted for the 300 Days Grain Fed Wagyu Cheek with braised leek, roasted parsnip, crisps, de la vera dust. It was incredibly tender, decadently melt-in-your-mouth, as a result of long braising hours. So good!

    My 1/2 Maine Lobster that sits on a bed of saffron risotto topped with micro pea and crustacean kaffir lime cream was really fresh and succulent. My only gripe is the seasoning – a tad too salty for my likings.

    Fifth course was a selection of fine cheese with chef home made raisin on vine, house baked croute, toasted wild nut and New Zealand honey comb.

    Apart from using specially curated cheese with great quality, the chef also put in a lot of thoughts into the “sides”, something that we would like to applaud her for.

    Our stomachs are on the brim of bursting but we couldn’t say no to desserts. I love the pavlova with some twists – paired with jackfruit soy gelato, granola seed, rhubard ganache.

    Chocolate Luxe with tangerine jello, opalys semifreddo, cuvee bali torte. Balanced taste of sweet and tart as silky smooth dark chocolate is enhanced with tangy tangerine jello and the delicate crunch of chocolate torte.
