My 10 Pregnancy Must-Haves

    Finding out I was pregnant was a total whirlwind of emotions. I didn’t feel pregnant despite all the positive tests, it was only until we heard our baby’s strong heartbeat at the gynaecologist that I realised this shit is real!  Despite no morning sickness and other discomforts, I had gone through swings of emotion – uncertainty, anxiety, excitement, confusion. Eventually, as the weeks went by, I enjoyed the journey more and more.

    I was lucky to have some sponsors throughout the pregnancy, but we are also very selective with what we choose to accept because both mummy’s and baby’s health are our top priorities right now. So here’s my 10 pregnancy must-haves.

    Prenatal Vitamins


    I didn’t realise the importance of  taking folic acid at least 3 months before you conceive until we attended some antenatal classes in the hospitals. I’ve only been taking it on a daily basis ever since I found out that I was pregnant.

    My gynaecologist also prescribed me with Similac Pramilet that contains all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to grow a baby plus Neurogain for baby’s healthy brain and eye development. I also continue with my probiotics for general gut health.

    I was anaemic even before I was pregnant, and throughout my whole pregnancy, I failed every single Hb test. This is because during pregnancy, your body produces more blood to support the growth of your baby. If you’re not getting enough iron or certain other nutrients, your body might not be able to produce the amount of red blood cells it needs to make this additional blood. I’ve tried taking more iron rich food such as spinach, tofu, black sesame, red meat and etc while avoiding calcium, coffee and tea for 2 hours before and after my meal. I also take 20-30 ml of Floradix Formula, a liquid iron supplement derive from herbal extracts that has been clinically proven to effectively normalize low iron level. It is easily absorbed and non-constipating. Glad to see that my Hb level has gone from a low of 9+ to 10+ right now 🙂  Still below average but I am happy with the improvement.

    Pregnancy Apps


    As a newbie mom-to-be who wants to know every pregnancy milestone, I’ve downloaded some apps:

    Baby Centre & What to Expect: Both apps give you personalized daily updates on your baby’s development and provides helpful medical and parenting articles for when your baby arrives.

    Kegel Trainer: My trainer keeps telling me how important pelvic floor exercises are now that I am pregnant. However, I hardly do it at home!  The Kegel trainer will send you discreet reminders throughout your day, which is really useful!

    Baby Mozart: Have you probably heard of the Mozart effect ? It’s the idea that if children or even babies listen to music composed by Mozart they will become more intelligent. Plus, the music relaxes me.

    Skin Care Products

    What they said about pregnancy glow is not true! I broke out like I was a teenager in my first trimester. Feeling desperate, I visited Edge Clinic every 3 weeks for basic facial (I can’t do any other treatments anyway) and use their basic skin care products that consists of:

    Skin Softener: Floral water that also works as a toner, love it!

    Edge2O: A serum that contains mainly HA, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin B5

    Healthy Snacks


    I am basically hungry every other hour and need to munch on something. Sometimes, I will have my cup of hot milo, half an avocado with some s&p, kiwi or a glass of healthy smoothie. We also got our fruits from a wholesaler call Great Harvest at Selayang. The wholesale price is a lot cheaper but the downside is you have to get 30 Australian avocados, 12 boxes of blueberries, 90 kiwis at one go! I always split the stock with my neighbour.

    I also love Torto Malaysia‘s quinoa drink that consists of mainly oats and organic quinoa flakes. It is really delicious and filling (my favourite is the black sesame and matcha flavoured ones), full of protein and dietary fibre! Great for those who are looking to eat healthier too!

    Stretch Mark Oil/Cream


    I hate that itch as my baby bump increases in size, and most importantly I am super afraid of stretch mark! I’ve been using the Clarins Stretch Mark oil twice, on a daily basis after I shower. KampungBoy looks forward to massaging it onto my bump at night, because #littlestar always wiggles around when he does it!

    Comfortable Maternity Wear



    I live in dresses through much of my pregnancy. I got most of my maternity dresses from Asos Maternity, Taobao and from Dear Collective, a Singapore maternity wear online store that offers them at a very reasonable pricing. Use my quote <KBCG10> for 10% off total bill.

    I also bought all my maternity bras and panties from Uniqlo – not the prettiest or sexiest but definitely the most comfiest.

    My maternity gym wear from Cotton On – I only have two sets though so I have to wear them on rotation lol.

    Pregnancy Pillow


    From C shape to U shape to just a wedge, most mums get pregnancy pillows to help them get comfortable enough to sleep. However, I don’t really like the fact that they take up so much space. So, I improvised by using 4 pillows to support my back and my bump.

    Pregnancy Books

    Pregnancy books should be every expecting mom’s best friend. They have important information regarding looking after your baby’s health and yours. I had an old edition of What to Expect when You’re Expecting from my friend. We also bought this prenatal education book written by a Japanese author 七田真, apparently a famous book in Taiwan, China and Japan.

    Prenatal Classes

    I really look forward to my prenatal classes at B Studios Fitness twice a week. It is a gym founded by mums for mums so they offer prenatal and postnatal classes. I love going to the B Signature class that focuses a lot on strength training. I still remembered how kampungboy freaked out when he saw me us working out using some weights and TRX band. “I thought prenatal classes are all about light yoga stretching and breathing techniques only”, he said.

    Being able to push myself a little bit more and to sweat it out is the best feeling ever. Plus the mommies community at the gym is really supportive.

    Prenatal Massage



    I started going for prenatal massage at Tanamera Wellness Centre inside LYC Mother & Child Centre towards the end of my second trimester. The massage was the best thing ever because it not only relax my tense muscles, improve circulation and reduce water retention, but I felt less stressed and anxious. My therapist knew all my sore and swollen spots and she did a very good job in relieving all that by using a ginger aromatherapy oil. I was lying on my side with a pillow to hug all the time, a very different experience from a normal massage session. This makes sense because I wouldn’t feel comfortable lying on my back too.

    I can’t wait to start my postnatal massage with them because it is included into my confinement package 😉
