Our favourite French Bistro, 2 OX that offers real and honest French cuisines has just launched their new menu! 2OX is manned by the same dream team behind Maison Francaise, our favourite French fine dining restaurant. Both MF and 2OX are our favourite places to enjoy French cooking, cocktails & wines. But yet, they differ so much in terms of character, ambience and cuisine style.
Chef Phillip Murray Dominic who recently took over the kitchen of 2OX, has more than 10 years of culinary experiences. He was trained in various countries including Verona, Italy, and Vienna, Austria and worked in Le Meridien KL at Prime Steak Restaurant and Favola restaurant, Ritz Carlton KL and Avani Hotel (Perahu Restaurant) Global Cuisine.
I like how you can order the dishes Ala Carte or you can mix and match any of the ala carte items (3 courses) for only RM 88++ and RM 120++ – available during lunch and dinner hours.
Appetiser: Lobster Bisque with Lobster and Carrot Bon-Bon RM26
This soup is the epitome of the meaning of the word Bisque – thick, creamy and full of flavour. Here, the delicious briny lobster meat swims in a thick, well seasoned cream.
Appetiser: Cognac Foie Gras Terrine, Onion Chutney, Home Made Brioche Toast
I had very high expectations for this classic French recipe and they were fulfilled! The foie gras terrine was velvety in texture and divine in taste.
Main Course: Espresso Braised Beef Short Ribs, Fondant Potatoes, King Oyster Mushroom RM90
Braised in espresso gravy for hours, the ribs were fork tender and some nicely charred edges. The fondant potatoes were deliciously rice, buttery and fluffy.
Main Course: Dover Sole, Grilled Squash, Meuniere Sauce & Toasted Walnuts
Dover sole is a mild fish that is slightly sweet and has a fairly delicate texture. I love the simplicity of this dish – Chef Phillip pan fried it to perfection, resting it on top of a bed of meunière sauce and served with some really sweet and nutty grilled squash.
We also tried Chef Phillip’s version of Duck Confit (RM 80), since we are in a French Bistro. The almost neon looking green gravy (made of pureed asparagus) was really delicious. The Duck Confit met all our expectations too – crispy skin and super tender meat.
Dessert: Pineapple Carpaccio with mango passion fruit mousse and mascarpone ice cream RM 30
My favorite, the chocolate soufflé, which has a light, airy texture and an intense chocolate flavor, makes the perfect finale to such a wonderful dinner.
I can’t wait to revisit – the RM 120++ 3 course dinner menu is easily one of the most affordable French cuisine in town (with great quality).
