Moobaan Thai, Taman Desa is a no-frills restaurant that serves Thai street food with affordable pricing. We were here on a weekend for lunch, together with our friends who stay in Taman Desa.
For only RM 13,50, their lunch menu comes with 1 soup and 1 drink. I was delighted to see my favourite cha yen (thai milk tree) as one of the complimentary drinks.
The Khao Kha Moo (Stew Pork Leg Rice, RM 13.50) came in quite a generous portion. The flavour was just right but the meat was too lean for our likings. When reflected to the manager/owner(?), she said that we can request for fattier and more gelatinous part next time. Will do next time 😉
I just have to order the Khao Pad Setoi (Stir Fried Petai Chicken/Pork Rice, RM 13.50) because I spotted my favourite petal. This dish hits all the right notes – spicy, tangy, salty and sweet.
Tomyam Namsai Talay (seafood, RM 19) – this clear broth tom yam soup was full of flavour, so good!
Gor Moo Yang (Grilled Pork Neck, RM 10) – we had high expectation on this because most grilled pork neck slices that we had were flavourful and tender but Moobaan’s version was a tad too dry for our likings.
However, the Tod Man Pla (Thai Fish Cake, RM 5) was quite delicious. It was well-seasoned and have firm, bouncy texture.
Thai Milk Tea – part of the lunch set.
Our ordered the Red Ruby and Mango Sticky Rice but both were nothing to shout about. I guess Thai sweet treats are just not their forte.
We wouldn’t mind returning to Moobaan Thai, Taman Desa to get our Thai cravings fixed going forward. They serve good and authentic Thai food with reasonable price, what’s not to love?
