Chinese New Year is a time for families to get together and enjoy family time. Why not ushering in the year of rooster with celebratory feasts from Li Yen @ Ritz Carlton KL. Li Yen is featuring 6 specially curated CNY set menus showcasing authentic award-winning Cantonese cuisine by Li Yen. Executive Chef Leung Kwai Hong from Hong Kong has been with Li Yen since day 1 and we have heard so much about the authentic Cantonese fare here.
Prosperity Yee Sang with Tuna
Yee Sang, also known as prosperity toss is one of the most anticipated dishes during CNY. Taking its inspiration from Japanese cuisine, the in-house creation with raw tuna slices offers an option to those who want a unique Yee Sang.
Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Fish Maw, Dried Scallop and Conch.
The nourishing and rich tasting broth left us feeling good almost immediately.
Steamed Sea Garoupa with Superior Soy Sauce
The best way to prepare fresh and succulent flavoured star garoupa is to steam it and the chef has executed it perfectly. For me, the best part of a garouopa fish is the skin – thick and wonderfully gelatinous.
Braised Sea Cucumber with Broccoli and Mushrooms
Sea Cucumbers with its gelatinous texture is a delicacy in Chinese cuisines. The Sea Cucumber is flavorless, however it has the ability to soak up the flavors of foods and seasonings it is cooked in. The preparation is also very tedious making it a really time consuming dish. I would say, come to Li Yen to enjoy this dish!
Simmered Chicken in Bouillon
The free-range Qing Yuan chicken is specially imported from Hong Kong. It has a firm meat texture with even distribution of fat, so good!
Lotus Leaf-Wrapped Fried Rice with Fresh Prawns
The lotus leaf fried rice was a bit too bland for my liking though, it could be more flavourful and aromatic.
Deep-Fried Nian Gao with Yam
I love deep fried nian gao and Li Yen’s version is so so so good! It is the perfect combination of soft, gooey nian gao and fluffy, powdery, aromatic yam.
Double-Boiled Almond Tea with Glutinous Rice Balls
I’m also a huge fan of Chinese almond tea and I would say that Li Yen’s almond tea is one of the best in KL. I had two bowls of these as some of my dining mates could not stomach the smell of almond tea.
A big thank you to Executive Chef Leung Kwai Hong for the wonderful dinner.
