Packing for a trip is a necessary step in getting to the destination, but sometimes packing can be a headache.
Sometimes we either pack too many clothes for a trip or we don’t pack. And most of the time, we pack to the last minute—which makes our packing decisions even worse.
Fortunately, we have accumulated enough experiences in packing for travel over the years. So here’s our take on the top 12 things to pack when we go travel.
#1. If you must travel in style like us (ahem), beat the glare in style with a pair of sunglasses in a variety of shapes. It also protects your eyes from harmful solar radiation.
#2. Scarf. I can’t hit the road without my scarf. It is super cozy, comfortable, and multi-purpose. It can be a bath towel, beach towel, neck warmer, or head scarf.

#3. Power bank is definitely the best invention ever, after smart phones. This life saving gadget can prevent dead batteries. Frankly, it should be a permanent fixture in every bag.
#4. Universal Adaptor. If you’re off on multi-countries trip, you’ll hardly want to carry a different adaptor for every continent you visit. Get one wit USB ports, so you can charge your camera and your phone at the same time.
#5. Camera. Getting to take pictures with a good camera gear while traveling is thrilling. You don’t know when you’ll return to the location, and you want to capture every important moment while you’re there. #6. Wet wipes are really versatile. I often use them to clean up scrapes and scratches, mop dust off of flip flops, wipe the sweat off your face, freshen up if I can’t shower… the list goes on!
#7. Travel size toiletries. Keeping yourself clean while minimizing your luggage weight is a challenge while traveling. And thus, after several years of trial and error, I’ve come up with a travel toiletries list that is suitable for both business trip and backpacking trip.
#8. Recycle bags. Take a reusable bag with you to avoid using a plastic bag while travelling. It is also great as laundry bag, extra hand carry bag and camera bag.
#9. Hand cream. Hand cream is essential in keeping your hands hydrated. Sometimes, I use it as hair cream on my split end. Desperate time calls for desperate measures.
Last but not least, here are my travel essentials #10, #11, and #12! They go so well together so I will just sum in all into one picture!
#10. Neck Rest. If you must sleep sitting up, good head and neck support is vital. We travel via budget airlines a lot, and I must tell you that a good neck rest can transform your cattle seat into a business class seat and gives you a good night’s sleep. We prefer the neck cushions with micro-beads as they are really very comfortable. This checkered neck rest from Shopee is simple and nice, how apt to bring this to Japan!
#11. Headphones. Noise-canceling headphones let your ears relax from the stress of air noise, and they definitely protect you by lessening the irritation from crying babies on planes. It is also great to entertain yourself with some good movies and music.
#12. Blindfold. I’m a light sleeper so with blindfold which fully blocks the light, I can sleep anywhere, anytime.
