It has been a while since we last visited Okonomi @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas. We were glad to see that Okonomi has evolved from customisation of sushi roll to a more sophisticated menu. Even kaiseki meal is available upon request.
Of course, patrons can still create their own maki rolls by mixing and matching from 40 different fillings, 16 types of toppings, and 20 sauces.
Kani Fumi Harumaki (RM 12.90)
Hokkaido crab meat, japanese cucumber & salad leaves rolled in vietnamese rice paper served with sesame sauce. This creative sushi roll was refreshing with a good portion of crab meat in it. The tobiko on top added a nice crunch and texture.
Spicy Salmon Pasta (kaiseki menu)
It was a really delicious off menu pasta dish. Every strand of pasta was evenly coated in a spicy concoction (chef’s secret recipe) and I love it when the tobiko and inure burst in my mouth.
Mango Prawn Salad (RM 20.90)
Heat wave is here so it’s time to savour the warm weather with cool refreshing salads! This visually appealing salad consists of succulent prawn, mangoes and japanese cucumber topped with tobiko and a mango salad dressing served over mixed green and cherry tomatoes. So refreshing!
Salmon Sashimi (RM 25.90)
Okonomi is really generous with the thick, succulent fresh Norwegian salmon portion! It is a great value of money for the price. Served over dry wakame and alfafa sprouts, it is a truly satisfying dish.
The Firecracker (RM 19.90)
We got to try Okonomi’s best seller – a spicy combination of urumaki, seaweed wrap, white rice, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, cili padi, spicy mental and tongarashi. It was addictively spicy for a spicy food lover like kampungboy. However, I could not take the heat well.
The TAMAGO MENTAIYAKI (RM 12.90) is a must oder here! We all agreed that it is the best dish of the night. How can something that look so simple tasted so good? The flamed mental sauce and ebiko lifted the dish to another level.
This rice dish is another special off menu item. I love how the rice is well seasoned and the fish is pan fried to perfection.
Chef also spontaneously came out with a deep fried salmon fish head dish. However, it was a little too fatty for my likings.
Chef’s special match waffle with matcha ice cream with matcha chocolate with azuki is also an off menu dessert. Remember to ask for Chef Alex if you want to try this.
Matcha lava cake (RM16.90)
The matcha lave cake is still as good as I can remember. It was oozing with yumminess as the green tea sauce was super gooey in the centre of the cake.
Come and experience the new menu in Okonomi. You won’t be disappointed!
