The bedroom problem that dare not speak its name

When it comes to our wedding day, we know there are no second chances, no do-overs and no re-shoots. So KampungBoy came out with a brilliant idea – he wanted to give me a fairy-tale like wedding. He came in a horse carriage on our actual day and it is really the biggest surprise in my life.

Our solemnization ceremony was also an emotional moment. I can still remember KampungBoy’s beaming smile and teary eyes as we exchanged vows.

A fairy-tale wedding often ends with this – and so, they lived happily ever after. Does happily ever after really exist as while there is love and respect between a couple; there are many other factors that play a big role in relationship. The (not so) secret to a happy marriage is also physical intimacy and a happy bedroom relationship.

Recently, there has been more awareness on Premature Ejaculation (PE). While erectile dysfunction (ED) is a familiar topic to most of us, premature ejaculation (PE) is actually more common, as it is affecting up to 1 in 3 men across Asia Pacific.
What is PE? PE is when a man is unable to control his ejaculation and ends up climaxing before he wishes and is accompanied by distress by him and or his partner.

It’s not just about bedroom satisfaction for men, women’s too! You read right, women deserve bedroom satisfaction as much as men. However, given the conservative nature of women in Malaysia, there’s a lot of taboo and embarrassment surrounding women’s right to fulfilling sex. As a result, a lot of women suffer in silence not wanting to bring the topic up.

Contrary to popular belief, PE affects men from all ages and holds no boundaries of where it can affect. The cause of PE could be both psychological (stress, anxiety) and physical (due to imbalance in brain biochemistry). So it is in no relation to whether the guy is “strong” or “weak”.

There are a couple of ways men address this currently. Mostly with what is termed behavioural therapy where they need a very cooperative partner. However, unfortunately, it’s not very convenient nor does it have a high success rate.

They should instead, seek help from their doctor.

Though PE might be perceived to be a man’s only issue, it is actually better approached as a couple. Afterall, having PE often means a woman is left unfulfilled. According to a recent study, 62 percent of men reported that they would likely visit the doctor if their partner advises them to. Therefore, the other half’s support and motivation is very important as it will encourage the man to seek help and medical assistance. It is said that PE can lead to low self-confidence of the man, which can cause anxiety and animosity among the couple, which can lead to separation! So it is important to determine if you or your loved one have this condition and treat it the soonest.

Lack of knowledge and feeling embarrassed to seek for help are some of the common problems for PE awareness in Malaysia. In lieu of that, A. Menarini an international biopharmaceutical company has recently launched a digital and on-ground campaign called Be Brave. The aim of the campaign is to educate and inspire men with premature ejaculation (PE) to Be Brave and to speak up about their health condition. Once they understand, they are encouraged to visit their doctor to discuss safe and effective treatments such as convenient medication. It is also encouraging the women to advocate for their partners to seek help.

I like their Facebook page as it features an interactive online quiz as part of the campaign. The Which Inner Hero Are You online quiz encourages the public to discover their inner hero and subsequently be encouraged to take a step in seeking further information on the subject matter. It is designed to be played by both men and women as the women can see which hero is their partner and the men can also find out their inner hero. Its cheeky questions are intended to break down the taboo surrounding the subject and create a fun atmosphere for couples to break the ice and discuss the issue.

I took the female version of the quiz because I want to know which superhero is my husband.

There are 8 simple questions to be answered. I like some of the quirky answers, so it is very entertaining.

For this travel question, I chose backpacking around Europe because it is something that we wanted to do for a very long time. Big cities are not really our cup of tea anymore, as we love to explore local places and local cultures.

As a foodie, this one is a tough question. Is it a trick question because every options sound so delicious! I gave in and chose the brownies with ice cream eventually. It’s all about the satisfaction folks! *Wink*

This question is also very cute. I will choose teleportation as it is a superpower that I have been wanting to own since young. Plus, if kampungboy does that, I will sure melt in his arms. So macho!

At this point I think couples will already be having some fun answering the questions – which allows for a good ice breaker if you would like to open up about this condition.

After completing the Which Inner Hero Are You quiz, my result said my partner matches the character of the Masked Hunter. The result is so creepy because it matches KampungBoy’s personalities to almost 100%. He tried doing the quiz and he got the same result!

We have been together for 10 years after all **flips hair**

As you can also see from the screenshot of the result page on the right-hand top there is a Call-To-Action website www.controlpe.com.my which is where you can find out more about premature ejaculation and ways to overcome the health condition. In the website, you’ll be able to find out if you or your loved is the 1 in 3 who has this condition through the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT). This will help you determine if you need to consult a physician to know more. Also you’ll also be able to find out your nearest clinic via the clinic locator in the website.

So if you guys are interested in playing the quiz, it is accessible through www.bebrave.my and the Be Brave MY Facebook page www.facebook.com/BeBraveMY.
