Win Heng Seng is a “must-go” Chinese coffeeshop in KL’s Golden Triangle district. For those who are working around the area, Win Heng Seng is a one-stop shop to savour all-time favourites such as pork ball noodles, char kway teow, Sarawak kolok mee and egg tarts all under one roof.
It is no surprise that this place is outrageously popular. We often find it hard to snare a table during peak lunch hours.
Win Heng Seng’s cup of coffee is decent – nothing to shout about but it does its job.
One of my favourite dishes here is the char kway teow (RM6). The stall owner uses the fatter type of flat noodles here and we spotted the usual ingredients such as chives, beans spouts, cockles and small prawns. It may not be the best char kway teow in the Klang Valley, but I like how the noodles have the right amount of spice and the fragrance from the wok hei.
The most famous stall here is the pork ball noodles stall (RM6 per bowl). Unlike the usual variety, the best way to enjoy the noodles here is to have it “konlo” (i.e. dry tossed). An order of hor fun (flat rice noodles) comes tossed with dark sauce, a generous amount of minced pork and lard, along with a side of homemade pork balls and Chinese sausage (siu cheong). The siu cheong is really delicious, but they could serve more than two tiny, pathetic slices.
The noodles and pork balls combination is so good that KampungBoy licks the bowl clean every time he comes here. He will always go for the big portion (RM8) too!
