Whether you’re looking for that first date venue or somewhere to celebrate an anniversary, Kuala Lumpur boasts its fair share of good fine dining restaurants. We have been compiling a restaurant list for Valentine’s Day for four consecutive years. So in tradition, this year we have chosen seven restaurants that are guaranteed to make your dinner date a night to remember. We had some some old favorites such as The Sage and Villa Danieli and some new names this year. The service and food at each of these are remarkable and it is set to add some romantic flavours to your evening.
Maison Francaise
Maison Francaise, otherwise known as The French House is only a five-minute drive from the city centre. However, the dreamy white coloured standalone building will make you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city almost immediately.
The chic, black-and-white interior features elegant crystal chandeliers, paintings of talented French artists and glimmering glassware. Patrons can choose to be seated at the pool side, the verandah or the top floor.
Chef Franck Lamache serves classic French fare such as foie gras terrine, smoked salmon, seared glazed duck breast and bouillabaisse fish stew paired with an extraordinary wine selection. Guests can choose a three-, four- or five-course menu—followed by a perfect sweet ending made of Grand Marnier Souffle or Le Mont-Blanc.

A truly beautiful restaurant, Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar needs no further introduction. The restaurant has a view that overlooked the Kuala Lumpur skyline and hillside. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic dinner date – classy, lush but not intimidating, with the occasional melody of glass clinging, soft whispering and sizzling at the background.
Chef Daniel and his team bring the best of French and Japanese fusion experience to their guests. A 3 course set dinner costs RM 175 nett, which had a good selection of options for each course. The foie gras appetizer is the rave of the town, same goes to their seared scallops and steaks.

Neroteca @ The Somerset
Neroteca @ The Somerset, Kuala Lumpur has been around for the longest time and requires little introduction. The restaurant may be relatively small but it is very welcoming. I love the hanging ham and copper pans over the deli counter and the long rows of wall-mounted wine racks behind the bar. The central downtown location is also a plus although that means it tends to get crowded during peak hours. Reservation is a must.
From the fresh bread and dry-roasted garlic to start, to the cure meat platter, roasted suckling pig, seafood paste and tiramisu to end; everything is absolutely delicious. The service was spectacular; the waiters were really friendly and knowledgeable. In my book, Neroteca definitely qualifies as the best non-halal Italian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur.

Opus Bistro
Located at a quieter part of Bangsar, Opus Bistro is a homey, long-standing Italian restaurant that attracts a loyal group of regulars with its classic offerings. The restaurant has been there, in the same place, since forever ago.
Our revisit has reaffirm the fact that Opus Bistro has got indisputable food quality, just like its reputable sister outlets at Jalan Bangkung. Though ‘glam’ dining as such is not light on the pocket (for us lar), but the food quality more than makes up for it.
