Vicchuda in Damansara Utama is a great place to get your tom yum fix. The restaurant has done pretty well because it serves cheap and fast food. The owner comes from southern Thailand so the menu features some Thai classics as well as popular Malaysian fare such as ayam paprik, daging masak merah and curries.
We usually order four to five dishes to be shared between the two of us. With each dish priced between RM4 and RM7, having a satisfying dinner here will not put a serious dent in your wallet either.
The tom yum campur (RM5) is a must-order here. It is spicy and rich in flavour, with fresh spices and herbs such as lemongrass, ginger root, red shallots, lime coriander leaves, chilli and kaffir lime leaves. The occasional bits of chilli padi floating on top of the clear soup may look intimidating, but do not fear. After all, real tom yum should draw your sweat and tears and unlike other versions we have tried, Vicchuda’s version has got a real kick.

We found the stir-fried kangkung belacan (RM4) to be quite good as well, due to its strong and savoury belacan flavour. This was a dish that you really cannot go wrong with here!
The paprik ayam (RM5) is one of our all-time favourite dishes at Vicchuda. We liked the piquant gravy that goes really well with white rice. I wish I know how to replicate this unexpectedly delicious and addictive salty-sweet marinade and gravy at home.
Just about everything we’ve had at Vicchuda was good but we highly recommend the tom yum soup and kerabu perut. We liked how the food is freshly prepared with lots of flavourful herbs and plenty of chillies. This is definitely one for lovers of spicy food!
