The N Seoul Tower is the highest point in Seoul and is a must-see tourist destination for those hoping to get a panoramic view of Seoul. The 236.7m high tower sits atop Namsan Mountain so most visitors combine their visit to N Seoul Tower with a stroll around Namsan Park or the nearby Namsangol Hanok Village.

From Myeongdong, we walked towards the Namsan Oreumi Elevator which allows us to have access to the cable car station. We think it is the best way to get to N Seoul Tower as it was quite an experience riding on a transparent box along the elevator.

Directions to the Namsan Cable Car
    1) Myeongdong Station (Subway Line 4), Exit 3 / Take road to the right of Pacific Hotel and walk for 10min
    2) From Hoehyeon Intersection (Myeongdong & Hoehyeon stations, Subway Line 4) walk towards Namsan Tunnel #3 and take the free Namsan Oreumi elevator to the cable car station.

Namsan Oreumi is a free outdoor elevator that runs between the plaza in front of the Namsan Tunnel #3 Commemorative Plaza and the Namsan Cable Car. The elevator covers a distance of 140m and can accommodate up to 20 passengers. With glass on all sides, the Namsan Oreumi offers a unique and convenient way to get to the cable car station. For those who may have qualms about riding elevators, there is also a wooden staircase from the plaza up to the cable car station.

    * Hours of Operation: 09:00-23:00 (Closed on Mondays from 9am to 2pm for maintenance)

The Namsan Cable Car is a 3-minute cable car ride that runs from the base of Namsan Mountain to N Seoul Tower, offering a splendid view of Seoul the entire way up.

The cable car can accommodate up to 38 people and is much less congested in the morning when there are fewer visitors. We were there on a weekday evening and we queued quite a while for the cable car. The passengers were mostly young Korean couples and tourists.

The tower features a gift shop and restaurants on the ground floor. Visitors may go up the tower for a fee. There are four observation decks (the 4th observation deck, which is the revolving restaurant, rotates at a rate of one revolution every 48 minutes), as well as gift shops and two restaurants.

The Roof Terrace is the most romantic area of the whole Namsan Park! Apart from offering a beautiful view of Seoul’s skyline, it is also known largely for its “love locks.”
    IMG_1678
Several years ago, a TV program’s main characters visited the terrace and attaching 2 padlocks to the fence as a symbol of their undying love. Today, tens of thousands of love locks can be found hanging around the terrace with new locks appearing each day as testaments to couples’ unfailing love.

These hanging named padlocks can be bought from the souvenir shop. Some couples even brought their own locks to be hang on the tower fence as a symbol of love.

Bonjuk (본죽) is a leading rice porridge franchise restaurant serving a wide range of tasty and healthy juk (rice porridge).  We visited the Myeongdong branch as it is conveniently located. A complete set as shown in the picture above costs 7500-10000 won, except for jeonbok (abalone) juk which costs 20000 won. It was warm and comforting on a cold spring night, after the strong gust of wind we experienced at N Seoul Tower.
