The first Grand Hyatt hotel in Malaysia has finally opened its door in August 2012. Conveniently located in Kuala Lumpur city centre and right next to KLCC, Grand Hyatt KL provides a great accommodation choice to both business and leisure traveler. A new hotel in town is also great news to food lovers like us – Grand Hyatt KL is introducing three dining options to the city: THIRTY8, JP teres and Poolside.
We were here at THIRTY8 for a casual lunch; thanks to the gracious invitation extended by Grand Hyatt KL. THIRTY8 is located on the top floor of the hotel, consists of a restaurant, a wine bar and a lounge. Floor to ceiling glass windows allow plenty of natural light in the restaurant and at the same time provide an expansive 360 degree view of KL’s magnificent skyline.
THIRTY8 offers a selection of steaks, Chinese seafood, sushi and sashimi for breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner.
I love how they feature action cooking stations to prepare dishes on demand, from fresh fish to steaks and even desserts.

Sashimi Platter (RM100). For us; good sashimi means fresh, high-quality ingredients and not a lot of fanfare. The sashimi at THIRTY8 was of good quality (though not the premium type) with melt- in-the-mouth freshness. It was really a pleasurable experience.
Arugula Tomato Salad, Tomato Olive Oil Dressing, Sea Salt, Black Pepper (RM 25). It was like the most fantastic and flavorful summer salad using different types of tomatoes, punctuated with a light drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper. It enables us to appreciate the real taste and texture of these fresh tomatoes.
Australian Black Angus Sirloin Steak, 250g (RM 100). Lightly marinated with only sea salt, our order of sirloin was perfectly grilled with warm pink centre. We really enjoyed sinking our teeth into the tender, juicy steak done to our liking.
Grilled items here comes with 4 types of dressing – Béarnaise, mushroom cream, green peppercorn and Chimichurri (made of parsley, oregano, garlic, chili, lemon, olive oil salsa). The Chimichurri sauce is something different. It was sour, spicy and minty at the time and went well with our steaks.
Garlic Mash Potatoes (RM 15). Smooth, rich and creamy; the mash was so good that we couldn’t stop nibbling on it!
Beancurd with Scallops in XO sauce, Wok Fried Kailan with Conpoy
Vanilla Soft Serve Mango Melba (RM18). Filled with raspberries and crispy almond crunch crowned with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, this luscious dessert has a light kick of tanginess. Simply divine!
THIRTY8 signature cake (RM 25) came in a dome and fogged up by dry ice.
The dry ice fog spreads the scent of chocolate over the table and creates a visually striking scene.
The waitstaff then poured some butterscotch onto the layered chocolate cake. The result is a delicious blend of rich decadence that melts in your mouth with every bite. We love the caramelized banana ice cream served at the side too, it was creamy and packed a punch of banana taste. Must try – a visual treat and a delight for your tastebuds.
THIRTY8 provides full service dining in a relaxed and comfortable setting and it is truly a great place where one could have a long, uninterrupted meal. We don’t mind revisiting as a paying customer as we love the food and the pricing seemed reasonable for a big hotel.
