After a full day of walking and shopping around Platinum Fashion Mall, we were helplessly hungry. Fortunately for us, we knew exactly what we wanted to have for dinner – salt coated grilled fish which can be found at these road side stalls situated between Central World and Platinum Shopping Mall.

Such stalls are known for the abundant variety and reasonable prices. You will find the entire area crowded with people even before dinner time. We spotted quite a good number of local Thais patrons and we took it as an good indicator.

Our order consisted of a grilled cat fish. It’s skin was encrusted with a thick layer of salt and wheat flour. One is suppose to remove the skin and to devour only the flesh. The flesh is sweet and firm, with a light hint of smokiness after long hours of grilling over charcoal fuelled fire.  We loved having it with the dipping sauce of cili padi, lime sauce and fish sauce. Very appetizing!

Our bowl of tomyam soup, though loaded with a generous amount of seafood and herbs; was nothing to shout about. We’ve had better tom yam elsewhere.

We were so tempted to order grilled squids and grilled cockles but our limited stomach capacity does not allow.

Our total bill came to 310 baht (about rm 31); pretty decent for a simple meal for two.

From Platinum Fashion Mall, walk towards Central World. The stalls are located by the road side after you cross the river.

350 baht is a good deal already for a meal of two. The catfish seems look great, it’s my first time to hear it with wheat flour coated and grilled. Might try to do this recipe. Thanks for sharing!
