roaming the busy streets of Wanchai

I just came back from another fruitful trip to Hong Kong with my comrade,  Ivy. Fruitful in terms of shopping this time, more about that later! One of our many great finds was the egg tart from Honolulu Coffee Shop.

Honolulu Coffee Shop is a 40 years old establishment in Wanchai that serves up typical Cha Chan Teng fare. It is also a place where you can find people from all walks of life itching their scratch for milk tea, toasts and pork chop rice.

I have a story to tell…

Once upon a time, there was a girl who lived in a city. She was so afraid to be exposed to the sun that she took all means of protection against the deathly ultraviolet ray.

For example, an awkward combination of can can hat, sun glasses and scarf. Not exactly fashionable but that’s the best that she can do.

She also refrained herself from enjoying all kinds of outdoor activities. She can only look from afar in envy while her friends are having fun.

Tapao My Favourite Prawn Noodles from Yong Len, TTDI

P1370010
One Sunday morning, I woke up with a pounding headache and a craving for prawn noodles. Felt too awful to apply anything on my face and to get change, I hopped onto the car in my most comfy 10 year old t-shirt and drove to Yong Len coffee shop at Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

I passed my Tupperware to the aunty who is manning the stall. Looking at me, she smiled and uttered “cute tupperware you have!”

I told her that I’m using my container from the BYO TaPau series, Tupperware’s latest eco-friendly innovation. She placed my rice vermicelli and yellow noodles on the Noodle Holder, it is indented at the side for easy and safe handling. The soup is then filled into the container before the noodle holder was being placed on top. Don’t worry about the hot soup part, because the container is made of safe, non-toxic material. And the best thing is, the perforation will keep my noodles moist by the steam released from the soup below.

Sharing is Caring!

As a working woman and a (vain) female blogger (ahem!!), I always try to put my best face forward. However, I’m not blessed with naturally good skin and have to work extra hard at keeping my skin in check.

Aside from the usual cleanse-tone-moisturise regime, extra care needs to be taken to target some specific skin problems that I have. My facial care also refers to more than just my face. It includes my neck, décolletage and eye areas. As sad as it sounds, these are often the first places signs of aging appear.

Huck’s Cafe – a Private Kitchen in PJ!

IMG_1280
Private Kitchen, Speakeasy, Underground Dining, Home Cafe……Call it whatever you like, because these terms generally refer to a restaurant-like setting tucked away in some neighborhood housing area or apartments. Reservation is almost mandatory due to limited seating capacity. Advertising is usually by word of mouth; coming from friends and families who have been largely impressed by the food quality. And in most of the time, the chef will decide what to cook for you, based on the best of the market for that day.

That’s a really intriguing idea. And it is already taking place around the world especially in HK, where rentals are exorbitantly priced. Restaurateurs found a new way to market for their food. And here in Malaysia, private kitchen is something that I’ve never known of until my colleague introduces me to Huck’s Cafe, a home cafe located in a beautifully crafted two-storey corner lot at Jalan Gasing.

The house is beautifully converted to a cafe like setting, with beautiful garden and Balinese theme man made pond.
