Eat, Play, Love and Stay at Green Field Hotel & Bungalows @ Ubud, Bali

Following the release of movie “Eat, Pray, Love” which was partially filmed in Ubud, Bali and based on the novel of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert, Ubud is probably about to be overrun. It will be a popular destination for those in search of an inner balance and spiritual fulfilment in life. And perhaps in hope of finding the love of their life too, just like how Elizabeth Gilbert (Julia Robert) met the sexy Brazilian hunk Felipe (Javier Bardem) in the island.

Ubud is indeed a less commercialized part of Bali Island. The people here is living in the beautifully lush surrounds and has a very strong cultural presence.

During our previous trip to Bali, we chose to spent a good two days at Ubud, Bali. The first night we rested our weary feet at Tegal Sari and on the second night we settled down at Green Field Hotel & Bungalows.

Being situated just next to each other, Green Field shares the same magnificent rice paddy field as Tegal Sari. The owner of Green Field is a well known Balinese artist. His artwork can be found at every nook and corner of the hotel.

Soon after arriving we were all served delicious welcome drinks. Check in was quick and there was this Taiwanese lady who works at the reception. She is a great help in giving tips and advises. The hotel also offers a free shuttle service into town and return everyday from about 8am to 10pm.

Tao Xiang Fish Head Noodles @ Jalan Tiong Nam

I have to admit that even though I’m working in the city centre, the Chow Kit area with the most diverse selection of food is still an unexplored territory for me. It wasn’t until KampungBoy’s family brought us to this fish head noodles place called Tao Xiang at Jalan Tiong Nam.

Tao Xiang serves no frills Chinese fare such as bakuteh, stewed pork trotters and fish head noodles under the zinc roof. So it is almost impossible to stay cool while slurping the noodles with gusto and gulping the every single drop of the leftover soup. Does it deter patrons from keep coming back? Apparently not! The eatery is buzzing with activities always and if you are lucky, you might secure a table right away. If not, be prepared to wait a bit during lunch hour.
