Naughty Nuri’s Warung & Grill @ Ubud, Bali

We rate Naughty Nuri’s Warung and Grill as one of the best restaurants we have dined at in Bali throughout our four days trip. Their ribs were outstanding –  so tender and the meat falls right off the bone easily.

This unpretentious roadside shack is run by Indonesian Nuri Suryatmi and her affable New Yorker husband Brian Aldinger. Other than Bebek Bengil, it is also another eating establishment in Ubud. The patrons profile is a mixture of tourists and local.

RT Pastry House @ Taman Danau Desa

precious that comes in a little brown box

RT Pastry House, a Taiwanese bakery is so famous that they need no further introduction. Other than the outlet in Danau Desa, they have another two outlets located at Subang Jaya and IOI Boulevard.

I love their cheese cakes; the blueberry cheese cake (RM 4.50) to be specific. It is lighter than usual, but the cheese flavor is very rich and intense. And for some reasons, blueberries always go well with cheese.

Day 2: EAT: Warung Made – SEE: Ground Zero Memorial & Pantai Kuta – SPA – SEE: Nusa Dua Beach – SEE: Tirtha Bali Chapel – SEE: Pura Uluwatu

For our full travel itinerary, please click here. Continuing from Day 1 – EAT: Seafood at Jimbaran Bay (Lia’s Cafe) – SEE: Jalan Legian, Kuta – STAY: Tune Hotel, Jalan Kahyangan Suci (Off Jalan Pantai Kuta)
1a
We started off the day with an early breakfast at Made (Pronounced Mah-deh) Warung, Jalan Pantai Kuta. The restaurant specializes in local Balinese food, as well as Japanese and Western cooking. During lunch hour or dinner hour, the place is often filled to the brim, seeing that it is a famous eatery for the tourists and the like.
2
It is a very famous eating establishment in Bali but the food did not live up to our expectations. The food was not too cheap either; we paid IDR 185000/RM 68 for 4 person and we left feeling unsatisfied and hungry.

Big on Fish, Bigger on Value!

pizza hut-2
just throw the bloggers some props and they will make good use of it. Guess who is who?

I was thrilled to be invited to Pizza Hut to sample their brand new product few days back. Together with the other bloggers, we were among the first few batches that got our hand (mouth) on the Fish King Pizza.

Pizza Hut hosted the dinner at their 3-year-old Kota Damansara outlet. The outlet is an interesting and dynamic space. The fine detailing and light fixtures make us thought that we were in some fine dining restaurants. It is a very posh fast food outlet indeed.

Addicted to Rice Crisps by Mister Potato

IMG_2017
I’m not a rice person. I always skip rice and pick on the main dishes whenever there is a family dinner. “Eat more rice or else some strong wind can easily blow you away,” my mum would always say that with a concern tone on her voice whenever she glares at my tiny frame.

I can’t be bothered and the “rice skipping ritual” continued until I discovered Rice Crisps by Mister Potato, a first of its kind in Malaysia. Just imagine that your plain boring white rice comes with 4 yummy flavours: BBQ, Original. Hot & Spicy, Sour Cream & Onion. Syok!

The Rice Crisps became part and parcel of my life. It kept me company when I’m bored waiting or stuck in a horrible Friday evening jam.

Wantan Mee @ Restoran Okay, SS2

IMG_8838
I’m going to blog about one of my favourite wantan mee stall at Restoran Okay, SS2. The appealing nature of the noodles is its crunchy and springy texture. As we stood by and observed, the noodles were blanched for a while and plunged into cold water to ensure a firm and springy texture.

The noodles were tossed and mixed with the soy sauce gravy which is slightly different from the ones sold elsewhere. The gravy was darker and a bit starchy but it was delicious, nonetheless.
IMG_8842
The wantans were slightly bigger and they never skimp on the meat fillings. We also like the huge siu kow filled with minced prawn and water chestnuts that gave some really crunchy and springy bite to it.

I will not proclaim it as the best wantan noodles ever, but it is decent enough to warrant multiple visits after you have tried it.

Hoong Kee wantan noodles stall is opened from 11am till 6-7pm. We also frequent the Fatty Duck stall which is open at night.

doing some last minute planning at LCCT

Got our tickets for RM 80 from the Air Asia zero fare sales a year ago and in a blink of an eye, we were all ready for our Bali trip!
IMG_9617
Our driver, Mr. Bagus picked us up from the airport and sent us straight to Jimbaran Beach for dinner. I’ve got a lot of emails asking about Mr. Bagus, so I’ll share my opinions here. You can reach him at <gelo82181@yahoo.com>

The Good:
Mr. Bagus is very accommodating; just tell him where you want to go and he’s willing to bring you there. He will never persuade or push us to visit those touristy shopping places where he’ll probably get a fair share of comission. The rate that he charged (IDR 300,000/day/car) is quite reasonable because we engaged him for a full day, i.e. 10am to 10pm (depends on our itinerary).

The Bad
Mr. Bagus is not a very professional tour guide in the sense that he never walk us through the touristy destination and explain to us the historic value/the story behind it.

So I’ll leave it for you guys to judge? Another point to keep in mind – it is better to plan your own itinerary and ask for the driver’s opinion because most of the tourist spots are scattered around the island.
p/s: Don’t be surprised if you see a Mr. Bagus that looks very different from our driver. The whole Bagus family runs the tour hiring services so they might send just anyone from the family. Our driver was Gutstut Bagus. Continue Reading
