Restoran Tasty Chicken Rice @ Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara
So I had Tian Tian’s Chicken Rice @ Maxwell Food Court last weekend. Three years back, it was so good it brought tears to my eyes but now the standard has dropped considerably. Feel so sorry for Christine and Huai Bin that I dragged over to the long queue.
What about our very own champion Chicken Rice? Crowned as the Malaysian Hainan Chicken Rice Open Competition champion in 2007, Tasty Chicken Rice is located within Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara.

So did the rice pass the test?
Each grain stood out as a fluffy and warm individual, unlike Tian Tian’s version which is slightly sticky and lumpy. However, Tian Tian’s chicken rice was very flavorful and aromatic when compared to Tasty’s chicken rice. Wouldn’t it be nice if we can have the best of both worlds?
Their Braised Kai Choy (mustard greens) tasted so homey. Post festival celebrations, my mom would throw in the leftover food together with some asam gelugor and mustard green to create a simple one pot dish like this. Fresh, tangy and spicy, this one whetted my appetite for more.

The roasted chicken was tender and juice, with crackly crispy skin. Delicious!

The “white chicken” was pretty good too – tender meat with crunchy skin and the layer of fat is almost nonexistent. But nothing beats my favourite chicken rice stall at Kelana Jaya – Kee Kee’s Bentong Chicken Rice.

The chicken feet was braised until soft and gelatinous but I find the dark sauce too sweet and salty for my liking.
Do let me know if you think Restoran Tasty Chicken Rice deserves the champion title.

and Taiping’s Kok Beng supposedly in the TOP 10 in one of those competitions,
though the chicken rice was rated a so-so for us.

Chicken rice here is average only, to be a chicken rice champion, the quality should be better than what you find in Tasty. There are better ones in Klang Valley.
