Taiwan Trip Day 3: Lover’s Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ximending

Continuing from DanShui Old Street

We took a bus to lover’s bridge and fisherman’s wharf (10 min from danshui old street), a great place for a romantic night out with a beautiful view of the bay.

Lover Bridge of DanShui is a white-colored Cable-stayed bridge, derived its name since it was started on February 14, 2003, Valentine’s Day. You may appreciate the sunset from the bridge. The total length is approximately 196 meters and the walk across takes approximately 3 minutes. (source: wikipedia)

Tamshui Fisherman’s Wharf (淡水漁人碼頭) is a scenic spot at the western tip of Tamsui, Taipei County, Taiwan. Its predecessor was the “Tamsui Second Fishing Port” on the right bank of the Tamsui river estuary, an important fishing harbor in the early history of north Taiwan.

The Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf is well-known by its beautiful sunset and fresh seafood. While having sightseeing and leisure facilities, it still holds its functionality as a harbor for fishing boats. (source: wikipedia)

We sat on the deck and had a nice view of the sunset and the spectacular lights of the city come on.  For a while all that either of us could do was stare at the wonderful sun set before us.

Getting Here:
Take the Red Line to DanShui station, and then transfer to Bus Red-26, 836, or 837. Alternatively, take a ferry ride from DanShui Ferry Pier to fisherman’s wharf (NT 50, more expensive).

Our next stop was Ximending, the Harajuku of Taipei. Well known as the main shopping and fashion district in Taipei, it is a hip happening place where young people go hang out.

Since we were in Xi Men Ding, we had to try the famous Ah Zhong Mian Xian (阿宗面線) . There isn’t a proper dining place, so we have to grab a spoon and stand by the road side with devouring the bowl of mee sua.

The vermicelli comes together with large intestines instead of oysters. To be frank, it was nothing spectacular.

For something cooling, we dropped by Chengdu-Starfruit-Ice 成都楊桃冰 just outside the XiMenDing station. Chengdu-Starfruit-Ice has been around for more than 50 years. They serve a wide variety of ice beverages with pickled fruits with star fruit and pineapple being the famous choice.
