Ah, the long weekend was great for a well deserved break! We met up with the gang (Chris, Christine, Ivy, Wen Ching), drove up to Klang for dinner (and bumped into James!), celebrated our fifth year together and make it a point to visit one of the bazaars around Klang Valley. We have always love the Bazaar Ramadhan at Kelana Jaya for the bewildering array of stalls selling delicious food.

This will be a combine post on our two separate visits to Jiufen. If you wish to know where to stay, what to eat, what to buy and what to do in Jiufen, please read on.

Jiufen is one of my very favorite places. I love walking along the winding streets with food vendors and craft stores on the side. I love chilling out at those old tea houses from the 30s and enjoyed a stunning view of Pacific Ocean. I love spending a night at one of those beautiful B&Bs and I got to mingle with the locals and listen to their stories.

How does the name of Jiufen came about? It was said that the village has only nine families during the Qing Dynasty. Everytime shipments arrived from town, ‘nine portions’ were distributed to the villagers. Hence, the village was named after “Jiufen”, or rather nine portions in Chinese.

Kin Shui Tei located inside Tropicana Golf & Country Resorts is a unique, quirky little hidden gem which most people never knew even existed.
I’ve been on a kind of quest lately to fine a really good Japanese restaurant near my home and I’m glad that I found one.
The interior is simple and the colours of the whole restaurant is easy on the eye and rather classy. There’s even tatami rooms with Japanese style table where you sit low to the floor.

Continuing from DanShui Old Street…
We took a bus to lover’s bridge and fisherman’s wharf (10 min from danshui old street), a great place for a romantic night out with a beautiful view of the bay.

Lover Bridge of DanShui is a white-colored Cable-stayed bridge, derived its name since it was started on February 14, 2003, Valentine’s Day. You may appreciate the sunset from the bridge. The total length is approximately 196 meters and the walk across takes approximately 3 minutes. (source: wikipedia)

Thanks to the economic crisis, Pui Gor, former dim sum chef of the Michelin three star Lung King Heen decided that it is the right time for him to open up a tiny and grungy dim sum restaurant in Mongkok. The piece de resistance, crispy cha siu bao is said to be the best seller (>750 in a day!). Most reviews have warned about the queue, so we got there at 10am sharp, just in time to join the already long queue.

After 20 minutes or so, we were seated at one very secluded corner with a table that can only fit two baskets of dim sum. The restaurant is really tiny, put in more than 20 people and it will literally burst.

There is no need to leave your conscience at home as you give in to that sinful pleasure of a delicious sweet treat at Dessert’s Bar. Here, they have thought about what constitutes a healthy dessert while retaining the yummy factor in it.

I’m glad that Debbie and Lynndy, the marketing executive of Dessert’s Bar invited me over. It was a fun girls’ night out where we oooh and ahhh over almost everything and we also learnt that desserts is no longer a sinful indulgence at Dessert’s Bar.
