Round Up: 6D5N at Hong Kong & Macau

Warning: 53 pictures ahead! Please read after the cut :)

We’re back from our trip finally! It was a very fruitful trip in terms of eating. We ate as much food as our stomach and hollow leg could hold, blame it on the makan list that we have put together based on some recommendations from openrice.com (Hong Kong no. 1 Food Forum). It’s no exaggeration to say that only another few hundreds hours of running drastically could work away the flab.

aaa…HK is one of the best places to shop, no? :D We went there for our honeymoon last year. Surprisingly it was easy to find Halal food as there were many Arab/Indian food. But I’ve to say, one of the best makan places is Todai Japanese Sushi & Seafood buffet. We went there for like 2-3 times sebab tak larat nak stuffed ourselves with more kebabs! :p

    As always, nice pictures! ;)

yannie: hie its just opposite the pork chop bun place. yeah apparently they are famous for the dried bun. if u go b4 3pm, they will serve it with the normal bun (very nice for malaysian tastebud) and after 3pm its the ’special’ bun. try both version n tell me what u think ;p

Hi I’ll be going to HK and Macau, flying to macau 1st, will spend a day and a night there, after that will proceed to HK, will spend another 4-5days at HK, do we need any visa to hk/macau? How about transport to hk from/to macau? Is tat one day one night enough for macau? And may I have the details(include prices and comment) of ur accomod, transport(especially transport to the eateries)? I also heard that HK ppl look down at 內地人, is it better for us to speak in chinese/english? I heard tat they will treat 內地人bad, this makes me worry as I cant speak Cantonese…

p/s: I hv ur blog linked from my blog =) Hv been following ur updates since long time ago.. Like ur detailed post abt traveling and food! Keep going… cheers =D

    kampungboycitygal Reply:

hi ruth: you can take a ferry to macau, please refer to my macau post. theres 3/4 ferry companies and it costs about rm 140 for return. you can take a cab or a bus. actually most places are quite near to each other. like in macau island we just walk around. u just need to take a bus from macau island to taipa village and coloane village.

i’m not too sure because i spoke to them in cantonese. most hk/macau people are quite unfriendly, so no matter wat u speak it doesn’t make a difference haha

glad tat u like our blog. keep visiting ya

    Hi,

I love your blog. Your account of food is really impressive. Hubby and I thinking of short 3D2N free and easy in Hong Kong. What would you recommend that we don’t miss!

Unfortunately, we don’t read chinese, we can speak cantonese..hopefully it’s not too hard to get our food by finger pointing.sighss..

    cheers, bonnie

hi bonnie, thanks for your lovely comments. u must go to this australian dairy co. near to jordon station, they serve the best scramble egg in the world. n of coz the whole breakfast in a jiffy experience is not to be missed. they are not just a food outlet, its a good place to experience the HK culture by ordering the breakfast set A, B, C and gulp it all down in 10 min bcoz the queue out there is just too long.

would recommend u to try wantan mee and dim sum too. its very different from we have here .

hi there, your post is amazing, this the 1st time i browse on which recommend from my friend. Im thinking to plan a trip to HK around Feb with my sis for 5days. which area do you reckon is the best and convenience we can stay? I love nice foods, so def gonna try all the foods you reckon and i love yumcha, which place is the best to feast in? is public transport convenience to access around places? I wanna go to Disneyland too, I saw your stay in Disneyland which amazing, how much is that? I am bit lost of planning the trip, will be good if you can suggest. Thanks~~ Love your post!!

    [Reply]

    kampungboycitygal Reply:

Hi Alice, bridal tea house (RM 200/night ) is nt bad in terms of location, if u dun mind the reli small room n that its located in temple street. if budget is nt an issue, u can try butterfly by wellington at central, or luxe manor at tsimtsatsui. :)

for yumcha, go to Tim Ho Wan, but be there as early as 945, they are open at 10, and there will be a long queue outside the premise.
    http://kampungboycitygal.com/2009/08/hk-trip-day-4-tim-ho-wan-dim-sum-specialty-shop-race-course-time-square-taiyaki-hot-sandwich-mido-cafe/

Yeah public transport is not an issue, just get urself an octopus card n u can go anywhere u want.

DH is about RM 800 – 1000 per night. Worth it if u have 4 person to share the room :)

    [Reply]

    Alice Reply:

thanks, is so nice of you~~ where do u stay in macau? do you reckon last night in macau and then make trip to airport from there on second day? is there any other yum cha places more like restaurant?

hi im staying at best western taipa. its better to spend a night in macau, then the flight back fr macau airport :)

    Kindly advice.

    Hi Shuet Yee

Thanks for referring to our blog. The good food list tcan be downloaded from our side bar, its an excel file. While for places to go, you can refer to our detailed trip itinerary in year 2009 and 2010. You can click into each of the links to get the details that you wanted – information on hotel, airport transfer & ferry to Macau, etc.

For example, info on ferry to macau can be found here – http://kampungboycitygal.com/2009/10/hk-macau-trip-day-5-leitaria-i-son-ruin-of-st-paul-poon-weng-kee-cookies/
airport transfer info can be found here – http://kampungboycitygal.com/2011/02/hong-kong-day-1-cosmo-kowloon-hotel-bon-bon-cafe-best-che-zai-min/

Day trip to Macau is viable, you can just go to the important land marks and all. Hope it helps.
