Yap Beng Bakuteh @ Equine Park, Seri Kembangan
Restaurants and coffee shops around
Teas are strictly self service. Choose your tea leaves in packet and fill the tea pot with boiling water from these kettles they placed around the restaurant.
We Must Have Rice
Our order of bakuteh (RM 7.50 per pax) comes in a claypot. The meat, with bits of cartilage is lean and tender. Not to be missed are the vegetables and button mushrooms that added an earthy touch to the bakuteh. The soup has a nice mild herbal taste to it but some considered it as bland.
Another specialty of Yap Beng would be their stir fry shark meat (RM 8 for small and RM 12 for large). Done ala dry bakuteh style with the same concoction of dark soy sauce, dried chilies, shreds dried cuttlefish, okras and onions, the potently salty and spicy gravy is very aromatic and appetizing.

Stir fry shark meat? That’s the first time I’ve heard of it. The closest I ever come to is sharks fin soup but even that isn’t that popular these days with all the environmentalists and animal rights activists… What does this taste like? Ever tried it?

Their specialty – the stir fry shark meat is something special. Usually I have curry shark meat, my mama’s home cooked.

Oh, Yap Beng is one of the firsts outlet serving dry bak kut teh in Klang. The shark meat done kung pow style is also served in their original shop in Klang, but the wait for the food on a weekend is HORRENDOUS!

Shark meat? Sounds exotic. OTOH, I have to say that the most attractive picture of the lot is the plain rice drizzeld with the dark soy sauce. Looks so appetizing!

cumi&ciki(mei) : Since the fishermen already cut off the fins of the shark and throw them back to the sea and let them die (they can’t swim without the fins), might as well fish them up and cook them, right?
I ain’t animal lover.

Wouldn’t the shark meat cooked till too tough that way? Anyway, would love to check out Equine Park one day. Still yet to feel so adventurous to venture there.

Nice stuffs, did u guys also try their signature chilli prawn? It is definitely rice killer where the prawns are first de-shelled and cooked using special chilli sauce.
