Sorry for abandoning the blog for the pass few days. Finally we get rid of the evil scared by millions of students. We got a new place to stay around Damansara too, all the packing unpacking loading unloading scouring cleaning thing is no fun! One thing for sure is we will be having fun exploring the new neighbourhood for good food. My flight to Korea will be in a few hours time, will be back on 8th June. I’ll miss everyone but don’t miss me people!

TGI Friday’s needs no furthur introduction as they are doing such a smashing business in Malaysia. On entering the bright restaurant, no one can miss it with the red and white awnings and brass railings.
Few weeks ago, we went there for a birthday occassion. This was my second visit to the One Utama outlet. The menu is extensive, the environment is fun and the serving staffs are extensive. Everyone seems to opt for the Jack Daniel’s Grill items as it never fails to dissappoint us. CK and me had the 3 course meal @ RM 39.90 with a choice of appetiser, mains and desserts. Overall, the food was mediocre, nothing to shout about and no complains.

Friday’s Mushroom

Chicken and Shrimp Diablo Pasta

Grilled Fish Fillet

Jack Daniel’s Burger

Birthday biy Terry with his new toy, the one that he is grapping? The guys sort of make fun of him by getting him this one, no offense ok Terry?. Happy Birthday Terry, may all lucks and wishes come sprinkling softly down around you all year round.

After hearing much rantings and ravings about this mamak place from my friend Kenny, we finally made our way there after a scrumptious dinner at TGIF and a late night show of spiderman 3. “You are such a nerd.” says Mary Jane to Peter Parker. My favourite line. She says it in such a great affection. I enjoyed the movie, just that it is overstuffed with story fragments.
So, the menu in Mosin is ordanary, typical mamak food with an addition of Western Food.

Most of the patrons there ordered Roti Mumtaj, their specialty. Roti Mumtaj (RM 4.5) is actually naan topped with shredded carrots, chillis, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. The naan is thick on the middle with crusty lacy edges with sourish sweet taste. The dipping sauce are dhal, tamarind sauce and youghurt mint sauce. The mint sauce is complements the roti well. If you happens to be around ttdi, give this place a try. There is another branch at Tmn Mayang Jaya too, some where around the old Lim Kok Weng Institute.

The weather was freaking hot these few days and we must be insane to have curry mee.
Well business is brisk at all the tong sui place and ice cendol place around SS2 that we can’t even squeeze in. Ended up at Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee, well at least it is air conditioned.
Everyone has been trooping to a hawker stall in Penang’s quaint Lorong Seratus Tahun to enjoy their curry mee. The two sons of the original owner of the stall decided to branch out and began operating in SS2 Petaling Jaya. The serving staff here speaks really fluent Hokkien, adding a touch of nostalgia to this place.

The menu is pretty much like penang village, penang house or any other penang themed places with prawn noodles, char kuey teow, curry mee, lobak offered.

Prawn Mee (RM5). The broth is sweet and the they never skim on the fresh ingredients. It just lack of some ‘wow’ factors that keep patrons coming back for it.

Curry Mee (RM 5). The bowl of curry mee comes with squid, tau pok and prawns. You are given a option to have the blood puddings (zhu hong) and cockles too. This is just not my type of curry mee. Their specialty is curry without santan, so it tasted so bland and the curry is diluted. I personally prefer Ipoh version of curry mee, just like
nam chuan’s or quan fang’s (balai polis curry mee).

The chillies come to rescue. The curry mee tastes better after these chillies are added in. You can adjust the spiciness to your own preferences by deciding how much to be scooped in.

Fu Chow FishBall (RM4.5) The Hockchew fish ball with minced pork filling is not impressive too. Frankly speaking, the curry mee was not on par to the Penang’s stall but nevertheless service was good and we had a good chat with the waiters. Do visit this please if you need to get your cravings for lorong seratus curry mee fixed (without high expectations).

That night, when the clock strikes 12, I knocked on his door with his favourite marbel cheese cake. The cake was a last minute thing, because he was with me all day long and I can’t even sneaked out to get him a cake. My housemate did me a favour by getting me two slices of cheese cake from Secret Recipe.
The candles were lit, he was told to close his eyes, he made a wish and he blew out the candles. The birthday boy resorted back to his B-O-O-K-S after that, it was a stressful exam week after all.

The next day, I made him an ugly looking brunch, a distorted smiley face, please don’t tell me that it’s not a smiley face! He named it Cheeky Breakie with his all time favourite egg mayo, chicken nuggets, cheese (the eye balls, you saw it?), baked beans and toasts. Of course, desserts would be the leftover cheese cakes.

Dinner was at Dapur Nyonya @ Bandar Puteri Puchong.
The area is beginning to flourish with many of the commercial lots being filled up, the amount of food places are also blooming like mushrooms after the rain. We found korean bbq, shabu shabu, porridge steamboat, steak house, lamien, thai food, pizza uno, emperor noodles, etc other than the well known bumbu bali and bibi wok.
The honey lemon sea coconut (RM 3.2) was refreshing. We opted for the Set for Two (RM 28), inclusive of thai styled chicken, tom yam soup, mango fish fillet and salted fish vegetables. Famished and inordinately greedy, we ordered dried shrimps buttered soft shell crab (RM 16) too.

Mango Fish Fillet

Dried Shrimps Buttered Soft Shell Crab

Tom Yam Soup

Salted Fish Vegetables

Thai Styled Chicken

Birthday Boy with Gluttony Face
Overall the food was not too bad, how can you get wrong with zest and flavor of sweet, sourish and spicy food ? Everyone loves it. Dapur Nyonya is not an authentic Nyonya place with Nyonya dishes like pongteh and perut ikan missing from the menu. The menu is more like the mixture of thai and chinese for me. Anyway, nowadays good food has no boundaries with fusion of taste that transcends and excites right? Total bill comes about RM 60 which is very reasonable and service is great too.
I told him that it has been ages since we went to a live unplugged music place. Without hesitate, we headed to Wings Cafe Equine Park right after dinner. Actually, his friends were having a little surprise birthday celebration for him over there.

Jasmine Tea for Him

Bubble Milk Tea for Me
The surprise was a sweet one indeed, with the sugary sweet vocal of Wings Cafe singer and such a great ambience, unlike the disaster that he faced last year. Haha.
Memorable birthday celebration last year where his friends slam-bang the cake hard on his face.
The Accounting Gang (Jackson, your favourite is in the picture!! Hehe)
A happy and blissful birthday to you, may this year and all the coming years of you life is glorious and filled with success.
