Floggers Meet @ Sandias, Bukit Damansara

“How ar? I have butterflies in my stomach, it feels like the first time you asked me out for a date!”

“Sshhhh, I’m nervous too, imagine meeting 40 of them which you have never encountered in real person. OMG where are we now? Just keep reading the map lar!”

The first ever food blogger gathering was held at Sandias in conjunction with Martell presents KLUE RSVP event. Thanks to boolicious for organizing this and babe kl for setting up the floggers group. I had a hard time to recognize those humble floggers who wish to remain anonymous. Your nick? Your blog? oOooOoo I know you! sort of conversation went around the place.

Reaching here is a breeze, thanks to the directions and maps uploaded by fellow floggers.

Polaroid of Lianne & RA and Kampungboy & Citygal

Free flow of Martell, so drink your heart out people! I saw some of you with flushed face and floating step hehe!

Pumpkin Soup

Chicken Fritos

Lemon Sole in Tomato Salsa

Braised Quarter Chicken

After so much of chatting in the virtual space, finally I get to meet Mei Yen in real person. She looks as great as her picture, and she has got killer shape with all the eating. I actually forgot to give you a toast on your engagement with Bob. Adui……

Kenny Mah the multi talented body balance instructor, Niza who told me that Kenny Mah’s word does not count because he was drunk and the lady who smells nice. It was fun talking to them.

Jackson from Klang who loves my coursemates and Kampungboy. No lar, Jackson is not a pervert, it was a guy’s instinct to admire ladies. He was kind enough to offer fatboycakes for babysitting his kids if we are going on a Bangkok Makan Trip. See? Jackson is one of the endangered male species.

The food was nothing fantastic but we enjoyed the night with great companions. We were brought together by passion for good food, our eyes just sparkle and light up when we talked about food (esp the sharkfin duck that Precious Pea tried) and the sound of our laughter filled the place.

I met Xiu Long Bao and Char Siu Bao who portraited professionalism in their face and dressing, Tekkie who is so young and sweet, Tankiasu who is a bit quiet, Nigel who brought a cake to the after party at Attic (sobs), Lianne who is so cute and bubbly, Mark who slim down and brought along her pretty gf, Jason who talak sombong langsung (Ipoh rocks!), Joe the constantly craving fella who persuades us to enter his firm, Precious Pea with perfect complexion that I suspected that she takes bird nest everyday, Paprika C who looks so much like my secondary school teacher, RA the new member which was seated beside us, TimLow and Vincent whom we wish that we could talk more to, tummythoz who is so cute and noisy, her blog partner fezzaboy who is a bit quiet and shy, lyrical lemongrass who loves me because I spray on her favourite scene, boolicious the organizer who looks stern but talks soft, babe kl who carry a smile on her face all the time, cookies cream who makes me salivate on her jogoya vip food post, SC whom I didn’t get to talk to, Adly from friedchillies who presented me the ultimate food guide, and wmw who shout us from behind “Kampungboy and Citygal”, I enjoy her laugher too. Did I missed out anyone? Looking forward for our second gathering now..

Thai Express @ The Curve

With the VIP pass for UEFA Champion League Trophy Tour brought by Heineken, Kampungboy and friends headed straight to The Curve to catch a glimpse of it. Takkan I tag along kan? It’s an all boyz outing and when it comes to football..YAWN..
The boyz had lunch at Thai Express that is forever packed with people. It is a Thai food connoisseurs originated from Singapore and the name sounds like some fast food joint with microwave reheat food. It has another outlet at IOI mall, Puchong. However, the sprightly coloured interior is divide from any other wood based Thai restaurant.

The boyz had Beef Bee Hoon (12.90), Shrimp Paste Rice (11.90), Yellow Chicken Curry Rice (10.90). The food is nothing spectacular but their drinks are quite pricey with mineral water (2.90) and ice blended (8.90). I think this would be our last resort to dine in at The Curve with other eateried like Sakae Sushi, Nan Xiang, Italiannis or even Kim Gary.

Enchanted Night 2007 @ Palace of Golden Horses

The big day has finally come. The dress is hanging in the closet, the cosmetic puffs and brushes are lying on the table, the strappy heels is sitting in the box, suddenly it comes to my realization that this would be my last prom. Time flies, the memory of the prom during my foundation year in Malacca still lingers in mind, and now it’s hard to accept the fact that I am graduating soon.

No comments on the food because noone comes for the food. Only complain is I ‘chiak beh pah’ because the portion is too small. Coincidently, the food served is exactly the same as what KennySia had during the Miss Malaysia Universe 2007 Pageant, he was being served with HL milk while we had syrup mawar which I think is definitely better.

Welcoming Drinks
The Menu
Three Happiness Hot and Cold Appetiser Combination
Sweet Corn Soup with Chicken and Snow Fungus
Steamed Seabass with Fried Garlic and Spring Onion
Deep Fried Boneless Chicken with Thai Sauce
Stirfried Siu Pak Choy with Mushroom and Yam Roll

Port Klang Tong Yuen

Tong Yuen (glutinous rice ball) is commonly associated to Dong Zhi festival and Chinese New Year but who says that you need occassion to indulge in these chewy little balls?

Tong Yuan is made by mixing glutinous rice flour with a small amount of water. It is then form into balls and is cooked in boiling water and served in syrup water. Yes, it is definitely something that you can replicate easily at home but why do we make an one hour trip to Port Klang just for the tong yuan? With a perfect hint of sweetness and gingerly aroma, the syrup is to die for.

Ginger is not only the antiemetic for early pregnancy, it’s a remedy for indigestion, appetite loss and motion sickess. Few spoonful down the throat, our body feels warm because the ginger induces perspiration to remove cold energy from our body. It just feels so good, minus the t shirt soaked in sweat.

Pic 2: The stall run by the mother at a corner lot kopitiam at Bukit Tinggi

Pic 4: Tong Yuan (big) with peanut powder filling.
Pic 5: Glutinous rice coated with caramelised brown sugar and shredded coconut.
Pic 6: Glutinous rice coated with peanut powder and sugar mixture. (muachi style)

The gingerly aroma lingers in my mind since my first visit to the Port Klang road side stall. Yesterday we went to the Bukit Tinggi stall, anticipating the same taste and aroma. Yes, like mother like daughter, the tong yuan was heavenly comfort food and so worth the journey here. Gosh, why am I doing the review now? I have really serious cravings now.

Port Klang Tong Yuan
Jalan Beringin, 42000, Pelabuhan Klang
(Go along the main road of Port Klang, drive slowly after KFC, you will see a road side stall just opposite EconJaya Supermarket)
I’m not able to provide direction to the stall in Bukit Tinggi, can anyone please do it so? Jackson? Pasan Kia?

Thanks to Tankiasu!
The address for the Bkt Tinggi’s tang yuen would be: Restoran Hock Bee Hiong,Lorong Batu Nilam 10. From KL, just go towards Klang city centre on Fed Highway. Go past the bridge over the Klang River. After 1km, you will see a flyover in front. Follow the signboard that shows a Hospital cross symbol. You will turn left here. After about 2 km, you will see the Hospital on your right. Drive past 2 more traffic lights and you can see the signboard that directs you to Bukit Tinggi. You will keep right and go underneath a flyover. At the traffic light junction, turn right. The shophouses would be on your right. Head towards Tesco, the kopitiam is near there.

Milwaukee Steak Corner @ Balakong

Milwaukee is renowned for its cheap and great western food. Developed from the hugely popular Harley Davidson bikers from the United States, the Milwaukee Steak Corner set-up has immense potential in becoming the next great franchise in Malaysia. They are having another outlet in Kepong which has a lot of good reviews too.

The cosy ambience makes it a good spot for family and friends get together. Few weeks ago, Kampungboy’s coursemate had a birthday celebration here for petite little Yin Nean and I did not tag along because my ex school mate gathering was going on too. So, no comments on the food because he forgot which was nice and which was sucks.

Original Chicken Chop

Chicken Cordon Bleu

Oriental Chicken Chop

Grilled Ostrich
Cheese Baked Fish
Chicken Maryland
Kampungboy could not keep his eyes off from this cutie pie sitting on the table beside theirs.

A long stretch of future accountants without Kampungboy because he was the cameraman. Happy belated birthday to petite little Yin Nien once again. Location map is available on Milwaukee website.

The Olive @ Genting Hotel

Located at ground floor of Genting Hotel, the award winning Olive is always empty. Many are feared by the refined atmosphere and plush interior, thinking that the prices must be steep.

The Olive is a trendy, elegant venue for an evening of delightful wining and dining. It sets the perfect mood for the evening while you enjoy the music of the resident band.

The resident band is playing lively hits from the 70s to serenade the night away. We are in our early 20s but somehow we enjoy jigging away to the oldies tune.

It happened that the old couple sitting beside us are HUGE fans of bee gees. They hummed the lyrics while dancing together with bee gees classic like Too Much Heaven, How Deep Is Your Love and Lonely Days. Wonder if we will be like them in our older days??

Long Island
There are choices of meat, seafood, salads, pizzas and desserts other than drinks beyond the bar. Juicy succlent wagyu beef is the house specialty. They are having a 2 course lunch special at rm 48 and a 3 course lunch special at rm 58. It is definitely a great deal for a fine dining experience at such a posn and arty ambience.

Price wise, total bill comes about rm 50 for our mocktails. It is considered as reasonable for us. Service is great and we enjoy the band tremendously. Will definitely revisit this place again, hoping that Uncle Lim could grant us some wind fall then I wouldn’t mind dine in here. Giggles.

Jack’s Place @ One Utama & Sunway Pyramid

I still remember vividly that me and my cousins had a great time at Jack’s Place Singapore few years back. I never get to try them since their arrival in Malaysia because there is always other choices when it comes to dinner at One Utama.

So, I finally step my foot into this place. Jack’s Place mingles ambience to great applauses. It was bright, clean and cosy. Yellow lighting makes a perfect setting for ’sexy’ food pictures.

I pay RM 6 extra for a soup of the day, coffee and dessert during dinner time. My brocolli and carrot soup tasted more like a MSG laden soup with teeny weeny bits of greens and oranges.

Munlin was craving for some juicy steak but she was too greedy to settle with just beef, so she opted for the mixed grill. (RM 30) You get a taste of everything: bacon, steak, lamb, chicken, sausage and sunny side up. The lamb was overcooked that she finds it hard to sink her tooth on it.

Chicken Mushroom Spaghetti (RM 14) that Lee Ping had was cooked to perfection. The spaghetti was tossed together with the creamy sauce and topped with some grilled chicken and musroom. She gave two thumbs up for her dish.

My boneless chicken (RM 18) was tender and juicy but the sauce was a bit bland that chilli sauce comes to handy here.

Yiquan had spring chicken with sambal sauce. (RM 22) No complain on this as it’s rare that spring chicken has dry texture right.

Since the food at Jack Place is affordable, we tried their set lunch the other day at Sunway Pyramid. It was Monday so the main course offered was NZ Sirloin Steak with Brown Sauce Topped with Onion Rings(RM18) and Grilled Boneless Chicken with Tangerine Sauce (RM 13.80). The Set lunch was inclusive of a soup of the day, main course, coffee/tea and dessert. It is valid from 11 am to 2.30 pm daily. You can choose to upgrade your meals too:

Add RM4.00 for Lobster Bisque
Add RM3.00 for Other Soup
Add RM3.00 to change the sauce of your main course
Add RM2.00 to upgrade normal coffee to freshly brewed coffee

No comments on the NZ Sirloin Steak because Yichang loves to have his steak well done (weirdo YC :p). Again the tangerine sauce was bland and I ate that with dollops of chilli sauce. Overall, the food here is just nothing fantastic, price is pretty reasonable and I love their attentive service at both outlets.

Mizi Shabu Shabu @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Mizi Shabu Shabu is nestled amidst a bustling rows of eateries at Bandar Puteri Puchong. It’s located just behind Bumbu Bali and if you are having a hard time locating this place, try tilt your head up to look for the neon lighted steamboat.

With bright lighting, clean surroundings and japanese style dining area, this place makes a comfortable shabu shabu experience.

This is not like any ordinary steamboat buffet place. You have to order what you want to eat and they will charge you accordingly.

Good news is every diner is entitled to their own pot. You get to personalise or play around your own pot of soup with whatever weird stuff added in without annoying others. It’s more hygenic too.

The dippings made from a mixture sesame, peanut chunks, spring onions and soy sauce is really nice. They will charge extra if you request for another dipping sauce. – -|

Porky Slice (RM 4) that we can dabble in the boiling broth. That’s the fun of having shabu shabu right?

Couple Set (RM 25) that comes with 2 prawns, 2 pathetically small fish slices, 2 fish balls, 2 tiny blocks of yoki tofu, 2 quail eggs, 2 tofu puffs, 1 instant noodle trying to be yee mee and abundance of glass noodles and vegetables. The food is very fresh and the place is very comfortable, so I wouldn’t mind to come back again even though the price is slightly on the higer side compared to Shabu Shabu King ss2.

My First Attempt on Curry Fish Head

Recipe from Rose’s Kitchen

Ingredients:

1 fish head (about 1 kg)
2 round purple brinjals, quartered
4 pieces tender lady’s fingers
3 tomatoes, quartered
2 sprigs curry leaves
4 green chillies, slit half way lengthwise
5 red chillies, slit half way lengthwise
2 big onions, sliced thinly
2 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
1/2 thumb-size ginger, shredded
1 tbsp mixed curry seeds for fish curry
4 tbsp curry powder for fish + 10 tbsp water
300ml coconut milk
50g tamarind mixed with 300ml water
6 tbsp cooking oil

Seasoning:

1-2 tsp salt
2-3 tsp sugar
1 tsp vetsin

Method:

1. Wash fish head and drain. Season with salt and vetsin and steam till cooked.
2. Heat oil in wok and fry the curry seeds and shredded ginger till light brown.
3. Add garlic slices and stir-fry for 1/2 minute. Add the sliced onions and fry till soft and transparent.
4. Add the curry paste and 300ml coconut milk. Stir-fry till the oil comes through.
5. Add tomatoes, lady’s fingers, brinjals, curry leaves and chillies.
6. Add the tamarind juice, vetsin, salt and sugar and continue to cook over a low heat. If gravy is too thick, add a little more water and let simmer for 5 minutes.
7. Add the steamed fish head, cover wok and let simmer till cooked.

Citygal decided to try some challenging recipe that are on par with those one can try at seafood restaurant. The ingredient list was extensive, giving me a hard time to gather everything. However, the steps are quite easy and simple. I play cheat by using instand curry powder for curry fish head and substitute the coconut milk with full cream milk.

I use Garoupa Fish head which is surprisingly full of succulent meat, it also contain staring eyes and fish lips which some said these are the best part! The verdict was good (surprisingly), my cousin said that the curry sauce was flavourful and aromatic. I picked a very fresh fish head judging from the moist, luctrous surface, firmly attached scale and crystal bright eyes. Suddenly I feel so proud of myself! Giggles.

Chinatown Seng Kee @ Jalan Sultan

Yes, another place to satisfy your late night crave other than Sungai Besi Wantan Mee. Seng Kee is one of the pioneer of Claypot Lo Shu Fan before it is popularised by various chinese eateries or mamaks. They moved into a clean bright shop lot (finally) but during my previous visit here, Petaling Street were hit by electricity blackout. They laid out a long stretch of tables along the road and we have to get our yummy fix along the drain.

Claypot lo shu fan (rat tail noodles) were served with the thick savoury gravy, topped with abundance of spring onions, minced pork and raw egg. Tossed the raw egg with everything and you’ll get a thick smooth gravy. Delicious! Somehow, I still prefer Murni’s claypot lo shu fan with the Ooo Laa Laa cili padi than Seng Kee’s.

Another most order dish must be their siu yoke meen (roasted pork noodles). The sang meen was mixed with roasted pork, vegetables and garlics. I have to say that the standard deteriorated. The sang meen has a very unpleasantly strong lye water (aqueous sodiam carbonate aka ‘kan sui’) smell and the roasted pork was hard instead of crispy. Nobody was willing to finish off the plate after one or two bite of this.

The deep fried yong taufu served some sweet sauce is nice though. I was a bit tipsy (not drunk) to take a good shot of this. Sorry! The bills came at a whopping RM 88 for 2 large claypot lo shu fan, 2 large siu yoke meen, 2 plates of yong taofu and some drinks.

It’s located at Jalan Sultan (after Popular Book Shop or opposite Shanghai Bookstore and Southern Bank). In Wantan’s Production review, he mentioned that Seng Kee actually has another two branch which is Mama’s Kitchen @ TTDI and Potz Cafe @ Sunway Mas.
