Dae Sa Kwan Korean BBQ @ Desa Sri Hartamas
It’s hard to make up our mind as there was too much of korean restaurants available, the heavy rain pour made the decision. We settled for Dae Sa Kwan where we had just parked our car infront of the shoplots. Maybe we shall try out Daorae which quite a number of bloggers had featured about next time.

We were brought to the upper floor, where we can experience the traditional korean dining, it normally entails sitting on the floor and eating off a small table. My calves soon emitted frantic signals of numbs, guess I need to correct my postures as sitting with ur knees cross is the ‘very right’ postures.
Hmm their menu is a bit confusing, its all in korean words with description in English..but hey I need pictures!!

Appetizers / starters – You are entitled to refills of two servings. Most of the veges are pickled stuffs, some even looked and tasted like mum’s cooking.
Just find this bowl of rice picture adorable, don’t you think so?
Kgboy said that the silver coloured elongated chopsticks looks like some needles where ancient Chinese heroes used to test whether their food is being poisoned. LOL
The bibimbap hotpot that we ordered, with assortment of veges, beef and some garlic, onion based soup. The soup is lip smacking good, its great for curing flu viruses too!
You can have your food barbequed too, the sizzling and cracking sound of crisps and lards makes us feel “urrrgghhhh, we should have ordered that!” . Nevermind though, as the soups and beef are good, and we shall try their bbq item next time.
It costs about rm 60. We can hardly move after all the stuff, we tried really not to waste to food but mission failed. It’s an good excuse to do some boutiques hopping around hartamas area after that. There’s a lot of boutiques selling nice and cheap clothing around this area!

Of Xiao Long Baos and La Mien Part II
I’ll be featuring Crystal Jade @ Lot 10 for my part II of Lamiens and Xiao Long Baos. I brought along my roomie Suyen and some new makan kaki – my classmate Mr. S and his cousin Mr. A who had just came back from Cambridge. It’s quite ridiculous if feed Mr. A with western food upon his arrival right? So we opt for something Chinese, and I hope that he’s craving for Chinese food.
Yeah, in terms of interior, Dragon I wins with all the grand statues of Qin terra cotta warriors and the black and red themes that feels so oriental. Crystal Jade is more to simplicity with wooden tables and chairs, transparent glasses that let customers oversee the buzz of Bukit Bintang.

Some dried shrimps chillies? Please correct me if I’m wrong. It goes well with the lamiens if you prefer a hint of spiciness.
Raddish Puffs that came pippingly hot. The pastry is so light and airy and puffy. Hmmmm good stuff! The savoury taste of the sengkuang (turnips) is just nice too.
Tadah~! The long awaited Xiao Long Baos! I think that the making of Xiao Long Baos is an art, some of the Sifus are even particular about the number of folds on each Xiao Long Bao.
Its best to be eaten with some shredded gingers and dips of vinegar. As I’d told you guys before, the right way of eating is to take a small bite of the skin and suck out the broth inside. Orelse, you’ll ended up with burning tongue.
Sze Chuan Beef La Mien ordered by Mr. A. The broth is spicy, the beef is tender, and the lamien is springy.

Of Xiao Long Baos and La Mien Part I
Previously Hartz Chicken Buffet is running on this place, but they shifted one floor below, taking up smaller space and they did some revamp.
Passerby can get a glimpse of the rolling and folding of dumpling skins, the filling and the steaming process of Xiao Long Baos.
Statues of Qin terra cotta warriors line the entrance into the restaurant, with a wall of Chinese characters as the background. I’m quite impress with their interior and I believe that this is the reason that customers flock in.
Thumbs up for the menu as the items listed are accompanied by pictures and descriptions.
Fried rice with Chinese ham (Jing Hua Huo Tui) and chicken RM 12 – According to Leeping, this is nothing fantastic, in fact it is a bit over priced.
Zha Jiang Mien (Noodles with minced meat and bean sauce) RM 12 – I took a bite if this, and the flavour of black bean sauce is overpowering.
Citygal’s choice would be La Mien with Fried Pork Ribs RM 14- Their La Mien is a turn down as I expect it to be springy as it was hand made while the broth is acceptable for me.

The Wonders of Spicy Minced Meat
Minced meat serves Lazy or Busy people well who wish to do some cooking at home. Dry mee tastes good topped with minced meat. Tofu doesn’t taste so plain anymore with some savoury taste. Carnivorous would find vege dish interesting as they can digged through it for some minced meat. You can even use mix it over with some pasta to create the ‘Fusionness’ too.So who can resist the wonders of minced meat? The newly improvised Citygal recipe for spicy minced meat tasted even better? The aroma of dried shrimps is evil! It will stimulate your saliva glands and make you feel like having more and more of it.
- Heat oil in pan and add garlic once simmering. Fry for 30 seconds before adding onion
- Add in diced dried shrimps and fry till fragrant.
- As onion begins to soften, pour in minced meat. Sprinkle in pepper and stir thoroughly with a wooden spatula
-
Lower heat to medium and 2 tbsp spicy fermented soy beans (taucheo). Mix until sauce is evenly distributed over meat.

Fun Facts : Kopi Luwak – The most expensive coffee in the world
What comes into your mind when I say premium coffee? Jamaican Blue Mountain? Kona? Tanzanian Peaberry? I believe that most of you knew that it was Kopi Luwak who conquers the hearts of many coffee lovers.
t
Kopi Luwak comes from the islands of Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi. On these Indonesian islands, there’s a tree-dwelling animal that climb among the coffee trees eating only the ripest, reddest coffee cherries. The local natives gather up the limited amount of the Luwak processed parchment coffee, remove the parchment shell, and ultimately ship it to the coffee broker.
t
The enzymes in the animals’ stomachs, though, appear to add something unique to the coffee’s flavor through fermentation attribute to the unusual flavors to the natural fermentation the coffee beans undergo in luwak’s digestive system. The stomach acids and enzymes are very different from fermenting beans in water.
What about the taste? Complex with bitter and caramel taste, heavy body, smells musty.

Restaurant Seafood Weng Seng @ Gunung Rapat , Ipoh
I’m staying in Gunung Rapat area, 5km south of Ipoh. Sam Poh Tong with impressive work of art and faith and Kek Lok Tong famous with the natural stalactites and stalagmites located within this area too. Not to forget that Heong Peng is originated from Gunung Rapat too!
Drunken Frog’s Leg with Mee Hoon (RM 18)
The only edible part of a frog is its hind legs, it’s a tender white meat, the lightly sweet taste resembles the meat of young chicken, and is common in French or Chinese cuisine.
This is so good! I find it hard to resist herbal soup with lightly sweet taste!
Sang Har Meen (RM 36 with 9 prawns)- Big head prawns grabbed all the limelights. Prawn’s roe spilled to the eggy sauce and thicken it. Can I just have the eggy sauce? Slurp**
Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab – Each of the family member is having a portion like this. Guess I don’t have to furthur elaborate on how good it is. Each portion costs RM 14.
If you wish to drop by this place, do email me for direction and if you have spare time, do visit Ipoh and see what this small town has to offer. I might direct you to this place if I’m around!

Lok Wui Kui @ Ipoh New Town
Modernised Kopitiam who grow like mushroom after rain disgusted me sometimes. They served some yucky taste coffee, non authentic kopitiam food such as instant noodles, pasta, fries, etc.
I feel lucly being an Ipoh girl, blessed with the famous balanced PH water (who bornes crunchy taugeh and Ipoh girls with perfect complexion) and numerious old styled Kopitiam.
Duck Noodles with Herbal Soup. Hmmm I see some longans, wolfberry and red dates. The soup is subtlely sweet that you can finish the whole thing.
The overrated Hor Hee that represent Lok Wui Kui. I suspected that the soup is sugar laden that it is too sweet for my liking.
The slightly overrated Shredded Chicken Hor Fun (Flat rice noodles). Lou Wong or Onn Kee serve better Hor Fun and chicken.
Custard with caramel – A friend of mine told me that yellow and soft stuff are all good stuff (Custard, Cream Cheese, creme brulee, whipped cream). I agree with that totally as this is heaven! It comes with a glass of plain water to wash away the sweetness. Thean Chun (Next to Kong Heng) at Jalan Timah, Old Town serves some kick ass custard too!
My mum’s favourite ROJAK. She has to get it back if she’s around the town area.
How to get here?
Lok Wui Kui is located at the corner of Jalan Raja Musa Azis(Anderson Rd) and Jln Mustapha A Al-Bakri (Clare St) and opposite Kamdar textile.

Restoran Loy Loy TeohChew Porridge @ Puchong Jaya
The weather went haywire nowadays, one moment the sun is burning and another moment it was raining cats and dogs. I caught some flu viruses and was craving for some really watery porridge. So kampungboy brought me here because he’s not sure wheter he can cooked up some really ‘watery’ porridge to my liking.
There are 30++ dishes to be chosen from. Since we went there for late lunch or shall we say early dinner, these are the goodies left.
This is what I want! I call this the perfect porridge, the key is they grinded the fresh grain and cook them for a long period of time.

Shanghai Nien Gao (Rice Cake) aka Park Kor Meen aka Bai Guo Gan
Hie! My name is Pak Kor Meen, some people prefer to call me Shanghai rice cake or Bai Guo Gan. I’m of FooChow origins and I’m a rice flour based product. Kuey teows or any rice flour staple food are my cousins.Basically I have a uniform size, which is a good thing for me because I will never grow fatter or thinner. Girls who say that I tasted yucky are just envious of me!
I’m a stuborn piece of things you know, throw me hard on the floor and I won’t crack. What do you need to do just to get rid of me? Soaked me overnight and I’ll soften. Hahaha
I gained some fame in the blogsphere recently, some celebrity bloggers did some write up about me. Among them are Babe in the city KL, Malaysia Best and Sixth seal.
The curious kitten Citygal wanted to challenge herself by coming out with a dish with me as the main ingredient. Let’s see how she get it done!
1. Soaked half a packet of the rice cake overnight.
2. Saute some garlic and onion in oil until they turned golden brown.S
3. Stir fry fish slices, chinese cabbage, mushroom and carrots until they turned soft.
4. Pour the rice cakes in and stir fry.
5. Use 2 tbsp of light soy sauce, 1 tbsp of abalone sauce and 1 tbsp of oyster sauce.
6. Crack in an egg and lightly stir to create the eggy sauce.
Notes: Do not cook the rice cake too long as it will turned soft and sticky. She has done a good job right? Haha eventhough that it doesn’t look appealing at all.

Happy Merdeka & Happy Birthday to Mighty Joanne (belated post)
Ipoh is as great as ever, with the friendly folks and nicest food. It has been a blast getting in touch with old buddies and I’m so glad that I get to meet up with Joanne – the Merdeka baby for her birthday.
Her 21st birthday this year carries special meaning to her as she was among 12 international students invited to the prime minister’s residence for being named a finalist of the British Council’s International Student Awards. She gets to meet Tony Blair in person and had some conversation with Blair!
In her winning entry entitled “Letter Home”, Li Shen had described in her essay how she qualified in First Aid and worked as a medical secretary in an antenatal clinic while studying for her degree in the college.
Gosh, her parents, her former teachers, her friends, the whole Ipoh is so proud of her!
Haha, enough story about this Ipoh girl. Let’s back back to the food that we had on her birthday lunch.
It’s located at the happening shoplots of Ipoh Garden East behind Jusco Ipoh. They served Thai food but I can see long list of Chinese cuisine in the menu.
Pineapple fried rice – This is so good that we help ourselves with a second serving.
Sizzling Black Pepper Venison – I used to think that venison and ostrich meat are unchewable due the lower content of fat. This proves me wrong as the venison are tender and juicy.
Butter crab – You can’t go wrong with butter prawns as it is equally appealing to anyone!
Salted Egg Chicken – Salted egg dishes is gaining popularity in the Chinese cuisine nowadays with salted egg crabs, salted egg prawns and salted egg chicken found their place in the menu.
Spinach tofu – The tofu is green in colour and it doesnt taste spinacy at all, it just tastes ermmm…normal.
Joanne and her bubbly friends. Happy Birthday Jo and wishing you best of luck in all your future undertakings!
