Assortments of Yong ToFu – Looks good and Tastes good

The dippings – Chilli and Sesame sauce

Kampungboy’s wantan mee with Char Siew (Sweet Roasted Pork)

Wantans with MSG laden soup

Pork Innard Soup for KampungBoy..I love the soup and he clears up all the innards

Chicken Porridge in Claypot

The Secret of French Toast Unveiled

Some of you might be wondering what’s so mysterious about French Toast? Even six years old kiddos can make it by their own. It’s extremely easy, widely available and generally likeable. What about a piece of great frenchtoast? I used to make very good frenchtoast during my schooling day that my sisters craved for it every single day. I’m not bragging and boasting! It’s a fact indeed. Haha but it just gone rotten after years of slacking in practises.

I just decided to tied up the apron and give myself a full practise of localized french toast on a nice Sunday morning.

Ingredients needed: 1 Jumbo Sized Gardenia Bread (breads from those old school bakery with dry texture would be better), 5 large sized egg, 1 tbsp of milk with every eggs used (5 tbsp of full cream milk), dashes of sugar to taste, local brand condensed milk and butter.

First in a big mixing bowl, crack in the eggs, add in the milk and sugar and beat them up. Next heat up a flat frying pan, add in some butter and let it melt. Dunk the bread with the beaten eggs, coating both side evenly. Fry the bread till it turn a bit brownish and crispy and finally serve with some condensed milk!

Notes:
1)Do not predip the bread with the beaten egg as the bread will get soaked up fast and the inner part will be undercooked while the surface of the bread is burnt. So just dip the bread few seconds before you wana get it fried.

2)To get some smooth custard, filter the foamy bubbles arises from beating.

3)Fry in slow fire! Patience is the key.

4)Use day old bread. In my case, I store the fresh bread in my fridge overnight to get some harder and dry texture.

It’s not as good as those that I made few years back. Hahaha. But still quite nice la, you can’t go wrong with french toast and condensed milk.

Kitkat Dark Luxury (Limited Edition) I haven tried this personally but most of my friends reckon that it is good!

Kitkat Lemon Cheesecake Flavour (Limited Edition) Hahahha..Bad reviews from my friends are flowing around! However SixthSeal gave a pretty good reviews on it..Again I have to try this out myself. They are left unwrapped as I’m too full for anything right now..

Hershey Swoops came in three individual sealed cup and each has 6 chocolate candy slices

Initially I thought that Hershey Swoops is some potato chips coated with chocolate..When I had my first bite, I’m just feel sooooooo strange because the whole thing is sweet instead of savoury taste in between the chocalatey sweet..I’m a big joker! SixthSeal is doing a great job in seducing readers in getting a box of Hershey Swoop themselves..Check it out here

Bumbu Bali @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Pictures from Sinchew i

DO you know that Waterlily, Buddy-Buddy and Bumbu Bali are under the same mangement or shall I say family owner? Today I’m going to blog about Bumbu Bali. Bumbu refers to herbs of Bali. It was run by the owner, Eddy and his Bali wife.

The big signage always caught the attention of bypassers.

The paintings give me a sense of tranquility..

Menu – I have to say that it has more varieties than their sister outlet Waterlily

Ice Lemon Tea

Papaya, honey and lime

Italian Soda ordered by Yen..Frizzy and Refreshing

My mixed juice – honeydew, honey and mint..What a good combination..Very refreshing!

Es Campur – With sagos, mixed fruits, and coconut candies which I’d never seen for a long time..YQ thinks that its too coconutly..Too much of it and you will throw up..

I pour these dippings on top of my pasta..Crazy girl craving for spicy food..

Lamb Chop..Dun judge the look as it was crispy outside and tender inside..

Siap Memanggang (BBQ Chicken) You gotta order this if you love the aroma of lemon grass..Its half chicken actually, double the size of Nando’s by paying only few bucks more

Nasi Campur Bumbu Bali..The portion is H-U-G-E..55 had a hard time chewing..

My Ladies Pasta with Grilled Chicken (Low fat, low carb konon..Haha..I was ‘amazed’ by the amount of oil left after I clear everything)

With Happy Face and Bloating Tummy..Hahaha

Somehow I still prefer Waterlily than Bumbu Bali. Reasons: I love watching my food being grilled as they have the open kitchen concept, it’s cheaper, and their yam cake makes me drool..

Fun Facts on Bakuteh

I was watching a TVB gourmet show the other day where they travel down to Klang for Bakuteh. Here’s some facts on Bakuteh that I extracted (translated) from the show.

Bakuteh is popularly served in Malaysia and Singapore. Strangely enough, you could not get it from China or other places with large ethnic Chinese population. Bakuteh is actually originated from Port Klang, 40 minutes from KL city. China immigrants in Port Klang who worked as trishaw puller or labours take herbal soup with pork ribs (Bak Kut) known as bakuteh as energy booster.

So why do we call this herbal soup with pork ribs as Bakuteh instead as Bakuteng (“teng” means soup in Hokkien)? The first man who commercialise Bakuteh in Port Klang is Lee Boon Teh ???. He is so well known that everyone call him as Bak Kut “Teh?”. In hokkien the word “Teh?” of his name shares the same pronouncation as “Teh?”. Thus the name Bakuteh is becoming common.

Seng Huat Bak Kut Teh located at Jalan Sultan (half under the bridge) is run by the third generation of the Lee family. Klang version of bakuteh is less soupy and more herbally. The soup based is made of Chinese Herbs, cloves of garlic, soy sauce and caramelized soy sauce ( ??) as colourings. Pork belly, pork knuckles and pork thigh meat are then added into the boiling soup base. It must be cooked under slow fire for 3 to 4 hours. The key point is do not overload with the amount of salt if you want the meat turned out to be nice and tender.

Round big pot is neccessary for a good pot of Bakuteh too. It uses the principle of heat recycling where every pieces of meat and bones are cooked throughly. Seng Huat sells only 3 big pots of bakuteh every morning so early birds get the good food.

A good pot of Chinese Tea is essential. It helps to clear your mouth and throat for the next bite of those chunky meat.

Today, the Bakuteh has evolved into a wide varieties of version. Ingredients like mushroom, bean curd strips and intestines are added. Teochews prefer it in a spicier way, Singaporean like it to be more pepperly and most Malaysians love it in a soupy way.

Ahhhhh……Don’t you just love Bak Kut Teh?

P/S: I found the video from TVB website, so the pictures above were print screened..

Sun Moulin @ One Utama

KL folks are spoiled with the many choices of good cream puff..*Envy*..Other than the Riche Montana Bakery that I frequent, Sun Moulin has a lot of good stuff to be offered too..Of course you can’t step out from Sun Moulin without a pack of their choux puff with rich custard cream..

Fresh from the oven..

Restoran Cheang Kee @ Nibong Tebal

Here we are at the Restoran Cheang Kee at Nibong Tebal. Just in case you didn’t know, Nibong Tebal is located in Penang state and it is well known paper milling. Another tourist attraction would be the Restoran Cheang Kee in old part of the town. Today we are one those people who flocks to the restaurant for its well known food. We reach here by 5pm odd. While waiting we were enjoying the sight of the swarm of swallows flying above us. Thank good none of their droppings got into our food and most importantly not on our glory crown.

Cheang Kee’s shop is among the very old shop in Nibong Tebal and it is quite a scene of historical sites.

The main attraction of Cheang Kee would be its baby octopus that is boiling water. Generous dashes of deep fried onion were placed on the dish adding a different aroma altogether. These cute lil’ octopuses were dipped into chili sauce filled with minced peanuts and we had done justice on those pity little octopuses that give you the chewy and juicy feeling.

Pandan Chicken with a strong aroma of lemon grass.

So what do you think is ? It looks gross but yummy for snails’ lover. In France they have escargot and back in Malaysia we have our very own version that was cooked in ‘gung pou’ style that gives you the light spicy taste.

This is their most famous dish. The CRAB PORRIDGE, gosh, slobbering now. These crabs although are small but it is so sweet and fresh. For crabs’ eggs lover, you can enjoy a lot of eggs. Lastly, the soup of the porridge is nothing but fantastic.

Before we end, the pictures below are the romantic view from the bottom of the Menara Telekom in Alor Setar standing tall accompanied by the glowing moon.

Of course KampungBoy and CityGal that are both on tight schedule now have no time for that. So this entry is guest blogging by KampungBoy’s fourth elder sister, XT. She went to this nice seafood place and she’s very much keen to introduce it to everyone. Thanks XT for lighten up our blog with these nice pictures!~
