Steamed Keropok Lekor From Kuala Terengganu

Actually our very first post on KampungboyCitygal featured about keropok lekor. Our passion of food is not known to others until one day while we were chewing on the keropok lekor..

CityGal : “Guess not many people know about this other than local (KT) ppl huh?”
Kampungboy :” Yeapz. Usually tourists will opt for the keropok lekor in Kampung Losong”
CityGal :” Why dun we start a food blog and tell ppl about this?”
Kampungboy :” Brilliant!! Let’s start working on it!!”

Eventually our blog is now 3 month old and we get to know many new friends who are enthusiastic towards food. Let’s get back the the steamed keropok lekor..

Keropok Lekor is actually fermented fishes and tiny prawns originated from Terengganu. The types of fish mainly used are the ikan parang, tamban and selayang. Its only available in Kuala Terengganu. Orders can be made via phone call or you can pay a visit Kuala Terengganu Hawker Center. Please take note that they wouldn’t be selling during monsoon season as fish supply is inadequate

Jogoya @ Starhill Gallery

Jo- A place one has to go.
Go- The palace in which a king lives.
Ya- A shop in Japanese culture.

Jogoya opened their first flagship in Starhill Gallery, KL. There must be something unique about Jogoya that it can gain its fame among the highly competitive F&B industry in Taiwan. There’s a mixing of reviews among local food bloggers on the food quality. So, KampungBoy and I decided to give it a try even though the price is towards the high end side. It’s a little treat for the Birthday Gal too!

.

The Procedures Recommended – Taken from Jogoya Official Website

Customers must pay prior enter and we were actually the first on the booking list. Their staff ushered us into a so called couple seat. It’s actually a little cabin where you and your partner are sitting next to each other and facing a wall. I urged KampungBoy to request for seats changing, and they lead us to a small table of two. Ahhh, feel more spacious now! This place is HUGE that I got lost for few times. (A bit exaggerating, main reason is I have poor sense of direction) Every table is given some metal clips to be dropped onto the counter when you want to order the cooked food. Just be patient because it takes time to be delivered to your table.

Most of their serving staffs are actually foreigners who can’t understand English. However, they are prompt in clearing your plates and getting you spoons or tissues. Oh, it’s heart warming because they say Thank You and smile quite frequently.

Everyone try the paperpot steamboat out of curiosity. You can choose your own choice of seafood and vegetables from the counter and the soup base selections are chicken and mushroom, miso soup and tomyam soup. There’s’ a portable burner on every table to keep your soup warm.

Citygal’s favourite : Sashimi

They have various type of baked cheese in bowls.

Butter Prawn..The prawn is fresh and I love the butterly taste

Ikan Pari Bakar..Cute presentation..Kampungboy: Waste aluminium foil leh..

Must mention about the prawn tempura coated with crunchy batter and the grilled fish chin (direct translate from mandarin)

Fish Fillet with Teppanyaki Sauce..SO good that we ordered a second plate..

Dim Sum Section

Siu Loong Tong Bao without Tong..Haha

Jogoya is a Halal restaurant..But weirdly enough that it tastes like pork..

Variety and selections of food is HUGE as well, but not all meet up to the standard. KampungBoy and I just love their drinks from fruit smoothies, small coconuts, coffee, expresso, cappuccino, plum tea and ocha. For desserts, their mousse cakes and tarts are nothing special, but I love the tiramisu, plain cheese cake and Movenpick Ice Cream from Switzerland. I tried it at Marche, The Curve and fall in love with it there after.

Cute coconuts..Love it

Citygal had 3 cups of cappuccino

Movenpick Ice Cream..Drolling..@@

Desserts..SO tempting right??

Note : Phototaking of the food preparation counters are strictly prohibited. We were actually stopped by the managers few times. However we goes on for our reader’s viewing pleasuers. Haha

Can you imagine that two of us can actually gobbled down so much of food? We definitely get the RM 133.40 worth. We recommended this place to all the jap food lovers out there, and not to forget those with big appetite like us. Last but not least, thanks to KampungBoy for the treat, he’s probably going to survive on bread for the next few weeks.

Homemade Lamb Chop

It’s gona to be a super short post. The fun of cooking at home is you can put whatever ingredients at your ease and you can have your own sweet time coz I’m a procrastinator when it comes to cooking. OK..Let’s get it started..

First marinate the lamb with some black pepper sauce, cut onions and garlic. Leave it in the fridge(best over night). Fry it or grilled it at slow fire. And the finished product..Not too cooked or raw..Just nice..Credit to KampungBoy :p

As you can see..The fully utilization of the leftover potato salad, pita bread and cooling greens..

Try doing it at home~! It would be perfect with some mint sauce..

Balabalabah..McE Grilled Beef Foldover

My idea was 90 percent inspired by Shawn’s ’sampan kebab’..Just pray that i won’t be sued for plagiarize his masterpiece. The ingredients are simple, the preparation and cooking is conceptually and practically easy, the substitution of ingredients can be done at ease too. That is why I love Shawn’s recipe. Basically it is meant for students staying away from home, but I jotted down some recipe for my mum and she loves it too!

First, let’s get the side dishes done! For potato salad, I boiled five potatoes till it turned soft, cut them into cubes and stored in fridge overnight. This is to avoid the potatoes to be mashed during the stirring process. The next morning, I add in a pinch of salt and pepper, 3 tbsp of mayonnise, some leftover formaggio and a bit of lime juice. Stir well.

How can you call it a day without having some greens? Cut the cucumber into cubes, shred the carrots, and add in some canned pineapple cubes. With 2 tbsp of mayonnise and some lime juice, stir till it is well mixed. The colours would be nicer with some tomato cubes but again I left it in my shopping list.

Ta-dah! Time for the beef! Toast three pieces of Ramli Beef Burger to get the crispy effect. Crust it with fork and stir fry it with some onions. Add in 2 tbsp of pasta sauce and tomato puree when the meat is cooked. Mine is a milder version because I forgot to buy pepper and chilies.

Next, heat the pitas on a wok without oil till it turned a bit brownish and filled in that stuff by layers. I didn’t use the mozerella cheese at top layer to hold everything in place because it’s expensive. So KambongBoy and I need extra cautious when biting to avoid the mess.

Layer 1: Beef Burger
Layer 2: Formaggio Powder
Layer 3: Potato Salad
Layer 4: Cooling Greens
It’s Heaven! The different textures in one bite…

Ming Chu Hawker Centre, Bandar Serdang Baru

KampungBoy went to have his tri-monthly haircut today. Usually after his haircut, we would settle our dinner nearby. Bandar Serdang Baru is the area of shophouses adjacent to South City Plaza. Most of the shophouses here are eateries or restaurant. There’s thai food restaurant, bakeries, steamboat, the famous spicy soup, kopitiam, and of course four hawker centres. You’ll be spoilt by the choices here. KampungBoy’s favourite place would be this place. They have all kind of stalls here selling different food, you can even order from the hawker centre opposite. I think they are under the same owner.

Yao Zha Kuai with Soya and Cincau – Citygal’s favourite combination

Ham Zim Beng with red bean paste, they even have lotus paste, coconut paste and yam paste.

Since we have been visiting this place for quite a time, Kampungboy found out that the wanton mee here is the best among the stalls here.

What makes it irresistable is the Honey Char Siew (BBQ Pork). According to the owner, it’s an entailed family recipe.

The wanton..SO SO lor

I tried the Prawn Mee this time..It’s quite a big portion for rm 3.50..The weird thing is they include minced pork into the bowl..Never ate Prawn Mee with pork before..The soup doesn’t have the prawn taste at all which makes the whole thing a failure..
