OF Sinful Indulgence and Guilty Pleasures

Confession Time: It wasn’t long until I realized that I have a sweet tooth. To satisfy my sinful cravings, I need chocolates, breads, cookies, candies, cakes, ice cream, sometimes even a cup of Milo or Nescafe saved my day. I gave in to these foods. I tried to resist my urge as my waistline grows, but somehow these special treats pull me back. The sugar rush releases the depression within me.

Whenever I feel like having some sweet sensation, Bread Story and Riche Montana comes into my mind.

Riche Montana Revisited. Remember the small japanese bakery located at South City Plaza? This time we bought a birthday cake there. It did not fail to surprise us! Suyen bought an american cheesecake and tiramisu too. Accordingly to her the cheesecake tastes flat but the tiramisu is excellent!

Their cakes are best kept at 5 – 7 C

Happy 21st Bday To My Roomie Yi Quan!

The wordings are written onto a cookie.

Wah!! It’s sprinkled with edible gold!

Tiramisu

American Cheesecake

I have some breads’ stories to share.. During our courtship periods, we love buying each other breads from Bread Stories.. It is something sort like errrrmm exchanges..Actually it’s an excuse la..Kampungboy initiated this exchange of bread thingy, in return i bought him some breads, then in return he bought me some breads..From that love blossoms..Ahemzzz..Haha..Of course flossy signature is everyone’s favourite..KampungBoy loves Spiderman with custard fillings and I love Simon Yam with yam paste as fillings..

Flossy Signature..They are generous will the amount of chicken floss..

Spiderman..The custard filling will smothered your mouth

Simon Yam..I lurve it!!

Usually I get my breads after 8.30 pm because they are having a 30 percent discount. Flossy signature becomes RM 1.61 from RM 2.30..Value of money..Call me thrifty or stingy whatever you want! Haha

Kim Gary and Nando’s @ Sunway Pyramid

To celebrate Yiquan’s aka Xiufu aka Lil tiger’s birthday in advance, we had a housemates outing to Sunway Pyrimad. We never hesitate to choose Kim Gary when it comes to tea time. The ala carte menu have lots of HK styled meals or snack cater to our needs. Kim Gary might be a common sight to Kay L people, but some Ipohan might not be familiar with it because it’s not available in Ipoh or any other small town.

The ambience is still OK but the crowd and the trouble of waiting to be seated might pull you back.

Franky speaking, I’d never try other drinks other than Ice Yin Yeong

Egg Sanwich ordered by Leeping..It’s her all time favourite

As for me, I decided to make some changes by ordering Fish Burger because I tried their pork burger and beef burger N times before.

Macau Pork Burger is craved by Kampungboy all the time. Since he wasn’t here, i recommended it to Munlin and Suyen instead.

Next stop, dinner at Nando’s. We had a rather unpleasant experience here.

We had the Peri Platter which is a good value of money

It comes with a full chicken..

The dipping sauce..Warning: The flaming hot peri peri sauce will burn your throat..

A large butter rice..

A large green salad with one or two drips of dressing..We request for more dressings..Reply from the waitress: ” What you are having now is FIXED and no changes shall be made.” 0_o

A large coleslaw..Coleslaw is always the favourite sidedish..But this time it tastes utterly bitter..We request for a change but the restaurant manager insisted that it is freshly made and it is the only batch of coleslaw available..

And thus Munlin fought for her consumer right by saying something like a franchise restaurant should have product quality control and customers come first..Bla Bla Bla..And we have the old style chips as replacement. “Can we have the spicy peri powder over our fries?” ” What you are having now is FIXED and no changes shall be made.” 0_o

Soup of the day..Taste real good..

Ah Di Bakuteh @ Dengkil

Dengkil is considered as a deserted place for most city folks. However, this ordinary small town is hiden with lots of specialties, especially Chinese food as they have a large Chinese community here. I have never thought of doing reviews on food from Dengkil until i read the entry from Wanton Production featuring Dengkil BKT. He went to Hao Wei Dao bakuteh which is located at a corner shophouse facing the main road. This time, We (KampungBoy and Me), Munlin, Leeping and Yong Zhi ventured beyond those shophouses and found Ah Di Bakuteh. Drive along the main road till you see the Dengkil Seafood Restaurant, Ah Di BKT is located just beside it. It’s a wooden house with zinc rooftop and there’s no signboards stating that they are actually the famous Ah Di BKT.

Dial this number if you are having difficulties to get here.

Never judge a book by its cover..Never judge the food by the shop’s layout

Tea leaf selection..Headache

Tea is a MUST when you are having BKT as it will clears the “jelak-ness” resulting from too much of fatty pork.

WHOOOOA..CityGal’s favourite! Nice to be eaten after it is soaked in the BKT soup

The claypot consists of pork ribs, pork intestines and “fu zuk”.. Slurp Slurp..The soup tastes so good!

The meat is soft and tender and the herbally aroma added a perfect tint to it.

Usually people take BKT with plain rice..

Guess what the eccentric CityGal want to do with the fried onions?

I like my rice to be served with some dark sauce and fried onions..Trust me! Its delicious!

The Story of Chris Choi

I found this story from Aylwin’s blog which link me to Chris Choi’s site. It gives me teary eyes..Hope it will touch your heart too. People often give up when they’re so close. Have faith and keep going and you will love the outcome!

i always knew i was going to marry her.

the proposal actually goes way back to more than 5 years ago. there was a period of time when i thought i had lost her. and i had gone back home to california, left with only my thoughts and perceived misery. there’s this spot i always go to, just to be alone, do my QTs, or just to think. it’s this barren cliff near my house that overlooks all of the san fernando valley. usually it’s riddled with stones, dirt, and an occasional piece of trash (which i usually try to clear out.) but on this day, the day i thought i lost her, there was something else on the cliff. a single flower. this little yellow flower sprouting in the middle of what’s basically a mound of dirt. it was a sign of hope, also a remembrance, that i lost her. so i just grabbed it…plucked it from the ground that it was born in, and took it home. i pressed the flower in an old dictionary and stashed it away. it was at that point i accepted that i may never be with her….and i decided to move on.

fast forward 3 years, both of us had our own paths. granted we were in the same school but our friendship was merely a hello and goodbye with underlying awkwardness from the past. we dated other people and grew during that time as well. but in the end, we were single…two pieces of the puzzle, not knowing that we fit.

the empire state building, a malaysian restaurant, a movie, and some hershey’s kisses paved the way. and then it was January 22nd, 2001. the timing was perfect…we started to date. and on that day, i took out what was once lost…the single flower that was pressed in my red dictionary. i placed it in a wooden frame and gave it to her as a symbol that i got her back. that i didn’t lose her afterall, that instead, i had her all along.

i always knew i was going to marry her.

so we dated and dated. and every single minute was amazing. from the trials and tribulation to the joys and laughters…every moment was important. at a certain point we were getting anxious. was marriage in the horizon? when can we start spending the rest of our lives together? and then me being a guy, i worried about the financial stability, the approval of parents, the commitment.

i have to admit, there were times when things were rocky, there were times we even doubted that God knew what he was doing. but all we knew is that we wanted to be with each other.

before we knew it, it was January 21, 2006. the day before what is to be our 5 year anniversary. i had spent 2 weeks working on a scrapbook looking back at 5 years of our relationship. now, you gotta understand, it’s been years since i did anything arts and craftyish so me with a gluestick and scissors ain’t a pretty sight. but i finally finished it the night before…it had dozens of movie tickets i had saved over the 5 years. every ticket to musicals we’ve been to. notes we passed to each other, pictures of us on various trips we took together, two pages dedicated to our dogs who are a big part of our lives. and as i sat there showing her the scrapbook i asked her to add little things in them.

i always knew i was going to marry her.

she pulled out old notes, drawings that i drew for her long ago. she helped glue in a musical ticket. we laughed at all the stuff we did. read some of the silly notes we passed to each other in class. and kept contributing to the scrapbook..until the last page.

the last page were two empty pages with just grass on it. “what should we put in here?” i asked. she looked around her room and pondered. then she thought of the framed flower. she resisted at first because she was afraid that the flower would break, but she eventually got up…grabbed the frame and sat down on her bed. she began to peel away the pegs that kept the back of the frame closed.
and as she opened it, she noticed a message written in ink on the inside of the frame.

“if you’re reading this then we’ve made it this far…and i know we would. without much further ado, will you marry me? – please say yes!”
and underneath that, a date was inscribed….January 22nd, 2001.
i always knew i was going to marry her.
and she said yes.

on the very last page of the scrap book it reads:
“To God, who made all things possible.”

Congratulations! May God Bless Chris and Esther..
